Win 10 ?
-
Hi Guys,
I am thinking about upgrading to win 10.
I hear that in the past some people have some issues with bms.
Are the issues resolved with the latest win 10 version?is it now fully compatible with bms 4.33 /4.34?
please advise. -
Never had any issues in Win10.
Win10 was a good upgrade from Win7. I was concerned, but my concerns turned out to be groundless.

+1
For a long time I put it off too.

My experience is that there are FAR more people not going to W10 out of fear than there are those actually having any sort of compatibility problem. Installing the Cougar software is a bit fiddly if you’ve not done it before, but it is essentially a case of running it as admin with win7 compatibility mode. That was back on 1703 or something, not sure if it’s even needed nowadays.

I upgraded to win 10 when it was released. Never had problems with any iteration of BMS.

Same here. Keep it clean and install the updates: I never had problems

thanks all for the replies and sharing your experiences.

Updated to Win10 a few weeks ago. Mainly because Win7 support stops this year, but also because my PC was getting old. I’ve had no issues at all.

I just upgraded last month. No issues at all!

Does BMS/Cougar/etc. work fine using upgrade vs clean install?

I have been installing Microsoft OS since DOS version, I strongly recommend clean installation.
I have used Windows 10 for years since it was release, I have no problem with Windows 10 clean installation. Clean installation clean up your HDD space.
and doesn’t load any unnecessary process on your computer.
Windows 10 is much lighter version than any other Microsoft OS. Go ahead with clean installation. But don’t forget to backup your important files somewhere on your external HDDs. -

Not had an issue yet, and worst case you just inject the driver again via the Device Manager.

I will nuance my answer as well
i’m running Win10 for more than 2 years now.
No problem with Win10 installation and BMS per se
Cougar no problem.
pitbuilder stuff: no issue (TIR, DED driver, Oled driver, AIC, MFDE, Yame, Jetseat…)Win10 created the following problems for my BMS computer
1. Sound:
- since updating to Win10, if my headset is not connected before launching BMS, then I have no sound in BMS, I only get IVC through my headset.
This has Nothing to do with BMS, but the new way Win 10 manages sound.
never found a solution to that except ensuring that the headset is connected before launching BMS
2. my external screen setup
it’s well know that multi screen support is way more touchy in Win10 than in Win7. Listed frequency and modes may not be there and it’s not so easy to declare small 640x480 screens.
Granted this is more an issue with pitbuilders, but it’s a WIN10 issue nevertheless3. FPS was better with Win10 than Win7
I’d never go back, but there are a few nitpicking issues with Win10, and they Always backfire at you after an update because Microsoft Always has a nasty tendency to impose its view on you and revert your previous changes to “their” default

forcing that resolution because you might not see it in the default Win10 list.
I ended up needing to go into advanced display properties and declaring my own refresh rate for my 640x480 screen.depending on what you see when you initially connect them, you might have to do that as well (but for 600x800)

I refuse to go with Windows 10 due to the telemetry garbage. If I have to download 3rd party software to prevent MS from receiving data from my machine, it’s a no-go. Preventing me from controlling my machine how I want to control it is also is a no-go. I realize there are security risks at all points in time, but a few bad updates in the past with very few issues related to NOT updating does not encourage me to continually subject myself to the threat of software or even hardware breaking.
…In all honesty, there are things about 10 I think I would in fact appreciate. I really like 8.1 Pro, and Win 10 apparently is not too much different. But, it comes along with all the extra bloat that I’m not going to stand for. Just my perspective on the matter.

Hi!
There is a nice tool to shutup win 10 not to send anything.
You will find O&O shutup at https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10
It is free app.Best regards

I’m with Thaeris here and will stick with win7 for the foreseeable future (I’m busy migrating my BMS setup to Linux anyway :))
I might consider “updating” to win10 once MS provides a big green button labelled “disable telemetry and regain control of your hardware”, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon, quite the contrary. Things will have to get worse before they get better I fear.
All the best,
Uwe

I use two Lilliput 8" touchscreens and have had zero issues with Win10 seeing them and you can easily (drag/drop) position them relative to your main screen in Display Settings. Only issue was my not being familiar with the eGalaxTouch settings to tell it where/what the monitor was to be, Windows was seamless once the proper drivers were installed.
