Noob Questions
-
Hi guys,
I’ve been following some of the youtube tutorials and of course the manual but still racking my brain around some stuff, so a few questions if you don’t mind.
- FCR - does the radar still operate normally when the bottom number is in red, or do both have to be white?
- TPG - Occasionally I won’t be able to move my TPG at all even though its SOI. As in it’ll be locked on a particular point and won’t slew. Any ideas?
- Mavericks - Just wondering why they need bore-sighting in the F-16 but not in DCS A-10C? Different systems?
That’s all for now.
Thanks!

If you are actually locked onto something with your TGP, you shouldn’t be able to slew until you undesignate/break lock. Also check your mode - if your TGP is slaved to FCR in snowplow, or NAV des, then you may stare in the direction of the next steerpoint until you change mode or slaving.
LMAV doesn’t require boresight, IRMAV does. If you don’t have to boresight IRMAV in DCS, that’s not a correct/complete model. Check your loadout(s), employment and operations vary.

1. yes, it does, though of course you aren’t using it to it’s fullest potential as it’s bottom extreme is looking through the sand
2. are you in area, point, where is it looking generally? does it move when you shift your radar cursor? is it looking somewhere identifiable? more details pls
3. they probably should; not that you can really align them with the radar as you don’t have one, but you can still snap them to SPI with china hat. they are more accurate than they should be and up until very recently they maneuvered like aim9 X-ray so i wouldn’t have a ton of faith in the modelling generally. -
When you boresight a MAV you’re aligning it to the HUD, really - the HUD is the “rifle scope”…everything is based to/against it.

Tofu,
Firstly…Welcome!
You’ll find you"ll enjoy BMS a lot more if you take some time in the manuals in the Docs folder of your install.
The “Dash 1” gives a very good overview of the systems, the “Dash 34” is good for implementing things, and “Training” is real good at walking you through the procedures.
They are very good with TGP and Mavs -
Possibly a bit of self promotion, but there is a detailed FCR manual here: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?28451-FCR-Manual-DRAFT

Hey guys, thanks for the info!
Indeed I have spent an hour or two going through the provided manuals in the Doc folder. Its good to see its a little less than the one for DCS A-10C
Did another flight and the TPG/Mavs worked flawlessly so don’t know what I did before to not make it work.
@rmax - cheers, will have a read too.

For me mavs come and go. Sometimes I am good and others I am making holes in hills instead of the enemy.

Your not the first to have issues.
I have heard from some users that althougt they had a steady pointing cross and valid target range, the mavericks would miss.
I came across a video recording of an unsuccessful maverick kill. What I observed was that at some point, the lock was lost for prior to launch. The (v) pilot took only the range and steady pointing cross into consideration, but fail to see that the BSGT mnemonic that was missing adjacent to OSB 20.
The pointing cross does not indicate a valid lock, but valid launch gimbal limits for a locked target.
BSGT and the tracking gate “bounding” the target indicated indicate a valid lock.
Could this be your problem ?
