Any non F4.0 or DCS games that features instrument navigation?
-
I just played F4.0 series (Free Falcon and BMS) based on VFR and just focused on shooting enemies down when I was very young but ever since I got my PPL and started working on my CPL and IFR ratings, I have mainly focused on TACAN and ILS based instrument flight when I play BMS and DCS. But are there any other combat simulations that also have instrument navigation/flight features like TACAN, ILS or other stuff? I have been playing BMS and DCS for many many many years and I want to try something news but all the other NON- F4.0 or DCS based sims that I have played are just basically VFR only shooting games and their compasses and attitude indicators are the only working instruments on their planes and there is no fun for me.

Microsoft Flight Sim is a very good choice for this kind of flying. Forget combat though.

X-plane always gets a good write up.
I tend to be VFR, but I think bear you shacked one of the many things that make BMS great - the realism of being able to fly IFR in a combat sim is great. For BMS you need to be able to do the whole pilot thing, rather than just roll-out and pickle.

Does it let you shoot missiles to or is it like just flying fighter jets around with no combats like flying commercial passenger planes in Microsoft FS?

Me personally, I fly FSX for the IFR, etc. and tend not to worry about combat - BMS is my weapon of choice here. If you are interested in learning/practiciing IFR and night in a realistic environment, it’s about as good as it gets. The added bonus is, with todays fast processors, etc. It runs really well with full visuals, etc. too. Give it a go - if its not what you are looking for then no big loss.

No missiles in stock FSX. Microsoft FS is successor of FSX, though IMHO FSX is much better sim.
If you want combat, use add-ons like TACPAC or Superbug, milviz, razbam etc. Superbug is very nice but I don’t have TACPAC so I can’t tell much.
Because you want combat with IFR, I suggest checking out VRS Superbug addon or TACPAC compatible combat aircraft.
If you want peaceful flights,
You can check out high fidelity planes like PMDG. Stock planes are good for learning, though you will find them less appealing if you prefer Falcon-ish level simulations.Sent from my epic G900F (CMod 11) Gadget of Mass Destruction using tapatalk.
