Pause Screen Issue
-
Hey Everyone:
Have an issue I need assistance with. The situation is, there are 8 sims flying multiplayer air combat, using a 9th system as the server. The lan is laid out so that the first 4 sims are on one router/switch, the other 4 sims are on a different router/switch, coming in to a router/switch which is connected to the server. (got that in your head?!)
Approx. 15 minutes into combat, all sims lockup with a PAUSE message on their screens.
Now all 3 router/switches have been replaced to 10/100/1000 units, and all pcs are running Win7, with the server having 18gb of ram and the sims 16gb of ram. All systems are running BMS 4.33u1.
Any ideas why the Pause screen??
Thanks

Is your server in 3D?

Is your server in 3D?
If they’re 15 min.'s into combat, I’d think so.

Edit: Agave_Blue, didn’t read your reply correctly. Disregard this post.

Sorry…define 3D. I’m sure it’s not what I’m thinking. Thanks.

Has a plane been put on the server at an airbase and launched into the 3D world.
Basically is the server not sitting idle in/on the 2D map.

AHHH…Thanks Cloud9. The server is idle, on a map. It does not fly at all.

Pretty sure the server needs to be in 3D. Unless something has changed?
Use the main Search box to find other threads relating to the server being in the 3D. I just typed server and found the above thread.

Thanks C9!!

As a counter position on that, the 24/7 veterans gaming server seems to have suffered noticably less issues since it changed to staying in 2D several months ago or longer.

Thanks Cobalt.
I’m going to assume(and we know what can happen there!), is that the Pause screens are the sims loosing communication with the server and are waiting to re-establish. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Also, I’ve been running the server in 2D for a couple of years now, with 4.32, and never had issues or this Pause screen. It has become an issue since switching to 4.33. I know 4.33 throws a LOT more packets down the wire, hence the updated routers.
The network settings, in the link C9 provided, refer to WiFi connectivity. My situation is strictly LAN based….all 8 sims in one room, server in another, over LAN.
Lastly, this is a default option in Falcon BMS.cfg called set g_bServer 0, which states “This option puts FalconBMS into Multiplayer Server mode. A server mode session can’t enter the 3D world.” It appears the 3D world is no longer an option.
So will the set g_bClientServerConnection 0 option in Falcon BMS.cfg, actually help? Or is there too much data now, coming from 4 sims plugged into a switch, to be transmitted down 1 cat5e cable?
