Need help with backup COMM UHF
-
Can somebody explain to me how to use backup comm when staring jet from the ramp…My CNI switch is set to backup, and how can i change channel…In weapon delivery panel i have set uhf 15 to kunsan tower, but i don’t know how to change to channel 15?
I looked in manual but didn’t find the answer -
On com panel there is rotaries to dial-in backup frequency. Just above Com 1 Com2 volume knobs I think.
-
There is only one chanel select rotary…That is why I am confused
-
May I kindly ….
and suggest you to read the dash1 training manual 1st chapter
there are how to about the BUP in there and in the training manual early missions as well -
Just hijacking this thread, rather than start a new one. I must be doing something wrong, but I can’t find what. I’m unable to get any response from Tower on backup. I’ve checked the following:
- Power: Main
- CNI: Backup
- COMM1: On, volume 100%
- COMM2: On, volume 100% (Not needed at this point as Backup is UHF only)
- LFK: BOTH (tried MAIN also)
-
- RFK: MNL (334.9 dialled in)
- Have also tried PRESET ch 15, but I don’t expect this to work as it won’t be set to the tower freq I don’t think? Unless BMS just mirrors the DTC preset list in Backup? I know IRL they have a push button to save MNL freqs as backup presets, but we don’t have that in BMS.
- VOL / INTERCOM dials turned up
Yet, when I say T6 for TO runway, I don’t hear a response. As soon as I start up and switch UFC to CNI, I hear comms. What am I messing up?

I think the training manual is a bit misleading there as it states
"Indeed before switching to CNI the backup UHF radio is your only means of communication. In this case, the tower frequency 292.3 might be entered in the manual frequency window by clicking the relevant knobs. Once set, communication with Kunsan tower will be available in Backup mode. "
Is that supposed to work with the engine off?

I’m not sure, but I thought yes. I would assume one would need to communicate with more than the groud crew before starting up, but perhaps I’m wrong. I would have thought it worked on the BATT setting.

Isn’t it T-5 for request to taxi?

Power, battery.

If you’re running Update 3 there is now a config option to do this. From the changelog:
- Added new config option g_bInitBUPfromDTC (default 0/off). If set to 1/true, the Backup UHF presets will be initialized to the same values as set in the UFC DTC instead of the usual hardcoded internal values, for convenience.

Power, battery.
Should not make a difference, as long the engine is not running the generator is not on line and with the switch in main there’s only battery power.
I sometimes experience the same, no audio response, but the response is visible in the upper left corner of the screen. Most of the times it works though. I don’t see what you’re doing wrong, should work if you ask me….

Is that supposed to work with the engine off?Yes. BUP works on Batt, hence with no generator (engine) power.

334.900 I assume you meant. Forgive the obvious question, but you were at Kangnung?

Yup, and yup

Damn, there goes the easy answer I had planned.
Did you try switching COMM1 off and back on again? Sometimes I find that ‘wakes it up’ if I’m having issues.
-
same I can’t come up with an explanation. I tested that scenario before and it worked. But It was a long while ago.

edit: works

I observe this behavior too, and consulted with another person previously who told me that the UHF backup is not modeled to the tower yet, or is simply not working for whatever reason.
My uhf panel also differs from the videos and the graphs and layouts I’ve seen, the first knob on the frequency select range only toggle between “a” and “2” unlike the video tutorials I’ve seen where it is a backlit cyan blue, it is a grey scale panel readout that only has two positions, the result is that I don’t think it’s working correctly, or is broken ATM.
I tried the presents, I tried the manual frequency selectors as well. cannot communicate with the tower.

tried at tel nof, ben gurion, hatzor, hatzerim, and ovda. no joy anywhere.
