Installing 4.33 Problem
-
Thank, sub101 and lightswitch94, for the quick reply. One more thing, if I may, after installing The original Falcon 4.0 and the BMS 4.33, do I need to keep the original Falcon 4.0 installed?
Once again, guys, thanks a lot for your help!!!

Darnit, guys, this installation process is, to say the least, very, very, difficult. I know it is my fault. I’ about ready to give up, and take on painting or playing piano, and setting my computer on fire!!!
Installing U2 and it’s stuck on “Completed! Running the BMS Setup program now…” -
Gave up!!!
Thanks, anyway!!!

Cuco - you may have given up too hastily… why not take a day’s break and start again, carefully observing the installation instructions contained in the docs and in the release thread as well? Please do bear in mind that there are probably thousands of users who have successfully gone through the process, people with different machines and OS’s and very different levels of computer literacy. I’m sure you’ll succeed too… Not that there’s anything wrong about playing piano or painting… Patience, my friend…

+1 here.
Don’t give up from now. Take a nice break, and when you feel relaxed try again.
We are here to help.
At least you already have installed the main installer ;).

Oh, I can follow directions, no, really
after installing The original Falcon 4.0 and the BMS 4.33, do I need to keep the original Falcon 4.0 installed?
You sure about that?
http://www.ravico.com/ST/BMS_433/Docs/BMS-Manual.pdfIf the BMS Launcher fails to locate a valid Falcon 4.0 install on your system, BMS will not launch and you will
see the error message on page 14. The Falcon 4.0 installation has to remain on your PC for BMS to launch.Try this:

After a long time away, I am revisiting BMS. I installed 4.0 then succeeded with 4.33.1. After following, as best as I could, the instructions contained in this thread, U2 does not install. I pointed the U2 installer to the U1 installer but it does not install or it appears not to. I tried to run the program and 4.33.1 opens and appears to be installed correctly. This is why I gave up on BMS a few years ago. I am missing something very basic in the instructions. Any thoughts or help would be nice. Thanks!

Seems you did it right, but just to make sure :
DESTINATION FOLDER: Update 2 must be targeted at the original Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 Setup folder, NOT at your Falcon BMS installation location!
You did point at the installation file of U1, not the installation folder of U1 it self?
Installation is pretty straightforward and should work without any problems.

When it comes to downloading and installing, I can screw anything up. Here is what happens when I try to install: “…Completed! Running BMS setup program now…” I get this response immediately after starting, then it stalls and nothing happens. I waited about five minutes before I gave up. Again.

Did you download from the torrent??

Did you download from the torrent??
No. Perhaps I am confusing the installation file with the installation folder. An installer opens up when I try to install. Perhaps I am making in improper selection there. What does the correct location look like. I have tried everything (but the right thing.)

I’m thinking you may have gotten a corrupted install file, which won’t be the case if you’ve got it via torrent.
This is how the folders look like once unzipped:

Ice, thanks. A picture is worth a thousand threads. Now on to the U3 then I can configure my settings.

Me again! Just some advice on using torrents please. Would win zip or 7 zip work? I don’t care for Bittorrent as it just complicate a simple install. Thanks. Real Noobie here.

No. WinZip and 7zip are programs that unpack archived files, the have nothing to do with downloading anything.
Torrent link files are used in torrent programs like Bittorent or Utorrent for peer to peer downloading of programs over the internet.

It always amazes me how someone can know that they’re a noobie…. and then go their own way regarding getting the files and installing the game. No wonder they then have install problems!!
Kerfuffle, please download qBitTorrent and use that to download Base + U1, U2 Increment, and U3 Increment. Why torrent when you already have the files?? This just ensures you have a good, un-corrupted copy of the installers.
Use 7-Zip to unpack Base + U1, and then apply the U2 and U3 patches. Once done, you should end up with something that looks like this:
If correct, you can then go and run the Setup.exe located in the \Falcon_BMS_4.33_U1_Setup\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 Setup folder. That should give you a nice, clean install of BMS 4.33.3. Hope that helps!

Torrent’s DO NOT ensure you have good, un-corrupted files. Please don’t spread mis-information. Torrent downloading is a crap shoot, always has been and always will be.
What’s to say someone who downloads BMS or any other files via torrent doesn’t alter them and seed a bad file? Yes, I know there’s Check sums but still, if you’re new to torrent downloading, you’d have no idea what to look for.
