Tough Game

Not bad at all for noob. I flew my first mission in THE WAR after 6 months in the sim, without landing. After 12 years of flying itās still hard and exciting. Very often I get my **s handed to me only to learn something new.
-
With your skills going up, you will learn to stay out of a dogfight over the DMZ or over enemy territory. I you get painted, turn around head towards friendlies and only engage if real necessary.
I think it is far more better to turn around, get some altitude, so that you maximize your advantage, drag them into a friendly SAM engagement zone, or drag them into a friendly CAP area.
If by turning around and getting higher you burn gas, hit the tanker and try to attack the SAM from another direction.
But all of this, needs some in deep planning and studying of who is where and at what time. Use your PPTās to mark friendly CAPās ā¦SAMās or Tanker ā¦ so that you improve your SA.
There is also nothing wrong with shooting at MIGās just to make them run and give you the time or miles missing to get your AGM-88ās in range of the SA-5.
Just some ideas ā¦ havenāt flown BMS fr almost 2 years now, so i might very well talk BS lol

PtH, donāt be too concerned about how the UI āgrades youā . How that happens is an arcane science that has been discussed here frequently. For, example, do a BARCAP, get 12 kills , and get a mission failure for missing a waypoint.
The point is, thatās a great mission and you should be very happy with it. -

Didnāt even think about that. I was only marking enemy threats and the FLOT.

Does it affect your overall campaign progress? OR, does your campaign only suffer if you donāt fly missions? How much do you have an effect on the overall way things are going on your side?
This sim impresses me more and more. I know the AI doesnāt have āfeelingsā, but I think they do by the way they reacted to me today. Today I finished a BarCap. Near the end of my station time I spotted a flight of 3 Mig29ās on my FCR. They were just inside enemy territory so I decided to make a short incursion and see if I could take one out. I got close enough where I thought they would be within Rtr and locked one up. At this point I started taking Flak as well. I fired the aim120 and waited for it to pitbull. It did, and I immediately made a split-S and lit the afterburner. After going supersonic I quickly returned to my side of the fence. I didnāt know until later but my missile found its mark. This is where it felt like to me the AI had feelings because those other 2 mig 29s pursued me deep into my own territory like they were seeking revenge for their lost comrade. A friendly flight engaged them. I donāt know what happened after that because I was out of missiles and decided to continue to Osan. Now I donāt know if the AI is just stupid and pursues everyone like that into certain death. Or, they just sometimes do quirky stuff like that. Either way, it felt real at the time.

I started with the original and I am still learning/lucky. I understand.

It seems when you are new you are so involved with just operating the jet you are literally just flying by the seat of your pants not really thinking anything out. Dragging the northerners back to my side never even occurred to me to think about doing.
Just like driving a carā¦ at first you are thinking āclutch, gear change, ease of the clutch, gasā¦ā As you gain experience, you stop thinking about those and you just **DO the actions. Just as that frees up your brain to have SA in your driving environment, this will also free up your brain to have SA in your flight environment.
Also I was so busy with flying/not getting killed I never turned on the ACMI.
TacView and SyncNix. You can thank me later.
Iām really glad I decided to give this a try as the control and general setup seemed daunting at first. Which, by the way, was completely worth it now. I found it easier to just start up my dcs a10 as my tm warthog was plug and play.
The setup part is called the Falcon Dance. Everyone has their own version of it and everyone has to do it one way or another. Got a new PC and installing BMS? Dancing time. New BMS version and a clean install is recommended? Get out the dancing shoes! While DCS is a great sim in itās own right, as you have noticed, it lacks the āunknownā factor that a DC gives you so. That āunknownā gets you to keep your head in a swivel, gets you to query every radar contact, and gets you on your toes as you approach the FLOT and you donāt relax until youāre out of Indian territory again.
Does it affect your overall campaign progress? OR, does your campaign only suffer if you donāt fly missions? How much do you have an effect on the overall way things are going on your side?
I wouldnāt worry about that very much. Unless youāre one of those that likes playing the āground gameā and just flies every X amount of in-game hours to keep the game engine happy, youāll have many, many more flights to affect the campaign.

This is where it felt like to me the AI had feelings because those other 2 mig 29s pursued me deep into my own territory like they were seeking revenge for their lost comrade. The AI has agents in the field and they most likely have a copy of your logbook and know exactly who you are. They have āfeelingsā and they have motivationsā¦ the guy you just took out? Well it was supposed to be his last flight as he was retiring on the weekend. The other two with him were his closest buddiesā¦ and there were actually 4 MiGs. Two of them went after you, one stayed to aid with the search-and-rescue. When he told your pursuers that he didnāt see a chute, I guess that just got your pursuers to see red and thatās why they chased you well past the FLOT.

Iād believe you if I didnāt know any better. Thatās the way they reacted anyway. Nice story though. Lol.

Why let reality get in the way of immersion and a good story??
-
ā¦I know that in the Mac version of FAF, if you gun down a guy on a parachute the sim will make a point of spanking you HARD for the next few sessionsā¦until it āgets over itā.

PizzaTheHutt,
Please keep the stories coming!
Awesome read! It is exactly how I feel everytime I go on a mission. Everything is planned until all hell breaks loose.

May i ask the OP what rig is he flying?
Because adding jetseat, mfds and an external icp (soft or hard) makes the immersion that much deeper. -

Because adding jetseat, mfds and an external icp (soft or hard) makes the immersion that much deeper.I have an [email protected], EVGA GTX 980ti SC ACX 2.0, 16 gigs of gskills ripjaws ram @2133, win10 64bit and BMS falcon installed on SSD, Asus 27" 144hz 1080p monitor, Trackir 5, tm warthog hotas, tm tfrp pedals (got these for free from newegg with purchase of warthog), I use komurcuās android app that letās me use my mfcdās and my ICP on my nvidia shield k1 tablet.
As for a jetseat or cockpit setup, the wife would probably murder me if I spent the money on that. It was tough enough process to get the stuff I do have. The next thing Iām sure she wonāt be thrilled with is when I purchase a new CPU, motherboard, CPU cooler and RAM. I have the room for a cockpit setup, however. After the CPU upgrade though Iām thinking it might be time for VR. Then of course comes the GPU upgrade whenever the 1100 series comes out.;)

Hi pizza.
I love flying the f15c eagle, you should try it.
Escort/Barcab/Tarcap missions. The 200 mile take off from kadena to clean the DMZ is (lit) or even escort f15E from Taegu AB.

dumbaā¦ Look hereā¦ https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?16247-Falcon-MFD-Software-for-android-tablets
This app on my old system lags too much, though. If youāre just looking for just an ICP/DED output, check out MikeJās app. Works greatā¦

I also use Komurcuās software. It may lag though if you do have a fast system and would highly recommend using a quad core tablet as well.

If you have the desktop power, dumba, I would highly recommend the nvidia shield k1 tablet. Komurcuās software runs great on it. The price for what you get is really a good deal. It has one of, if not the fastest processor in an android tab. The same could be said of its GPU. You can also stream games straight from your desktop PC to the shield if you have a GTX GPU in your desktop. Iāve even done it remotely at friends houses that have good internet. Although I wouldnāt recommend a session of falcon on the shield. Streaming is mostly good with console ports using a gamepad and mouse controlled strategy games.
Komurcuās app also ran pretty good on my galaxy s6 but I found the screen too small for my taste. Maybe if you have a phone with a larger screen like the note it could work. Thatās why I got the shield, the larger screen you get with a tab and the fast CPU and GPU were perfect for it.

One of my early investments was TM MFD bevels. For the price you canāt really go wrong IMHO. A lot of the functions you can do with a HOTAS (especially FCR). But switching modes, changing scales, and using laser bombs is so much easier and better. I still like it on the ramp start when you lit DTE/LOAD using the buttons.

Hey PTH,
Join a squadron and double the fun!!
My squadron, The 87th Stray Dogs extends an invitation to try a VFS.
Visit http://www.87th.org/ and ask for more help.
We fly every thursday and sunday night 20:00 EST.
Our instructors consist of some very experienced BMS pilots as well as Real Life/Military Pilots/Aviators
We look forward to hearing from you!
PS. by the looks of it, it shows you can write, so it would be nice to have stories to go with our flights! -
Why get a nVidia Shield tablet with an 8" screen when for a little more dough, you can get a 22" or 24" touchscreen and get that much more real estate?
