F18 Q
-
Does the F18 have a system like the HTS on the F16 for HARM use. Or does the F18 purely rely on the missiles sub mode like POS, HAS etc.
-
Doesn’t use the HTS have to use the missile in HAS mode or POS
-
did a quick google. and only the F-16 is equipped to carry the HTS pod in real life. so bms in this case is true to life.
MLU’s are also capable of carrying the HTS pod but no MLU squadrons have the HTS in inventory so that’s why i assume it cannot be equipped in bms on the MLU

From what I understood he’s asking if the F/A-18 carries an HTS pod or relies only on the missiles as radiation sensor. Personally I have no experience so no clue. I’d be curious as to the reason for it not to be the case however…

yep that was my understanding as well, but poochies answered that, i just wanted to expand on it since it drew my interest as well as to why the hornet does not carry it.
my google search did not turn anything up regarding that though, so all i can assume is that the air force is not willing to share, it’s my understanding that the US air force and navy do not get along all that well.

The MLU never had the HTS IRL. The latest update even removed the Harm capability.

i’m assuming you have access to data that i don’t but according to F-16.net tape 4.2 added HTS capability to the MLU. http://www.f-16.net/f-16_versions_article2.html
i’m guessing then that during one of those clean up tape updates they removed it but it’s simply not listed?

MLU tape include the whole software changes. Including sometimes CM update as well.
IRL, the HTS nacelle was never sell for EPAF countries. The missile itself is not part of the stock.
In M5 (or around that update) few EPAF countries paid to delete the software capabilities itself. -
No. The F/A-18 T/M/S does not use a system like HTS. They can use TOO mode (HAS in a Viper) but it is somewhat limited in its employment as a reactive weapon. USN/USMC philosophy of HARM employment is very different from USAF F-16 Block 50 or HTS users.
Normal employment for Hornets that can be simulated here would be EOM against a preordered location with time of arrival for missiles planned to give coverage throughout the window of striker vulnerability.
Not nearly as fun as Sniping TARs with the HTS, though.

Yep, AF Pukes get all the fun stuff…HTS, gbu-39,cbu-103,for example.;)
