AMRAAM Cues disappear (HUD/FCR) in flight
-
Hi Gents,
I noticed that when I’m air to air fighting sometimes the AMRAAM display cues (range / Rmax / Rne / A-pole / carat) - basically the stuff on the right side of the HUD and FCR display - disappear. That happens in A2A mode or in Missile Override. I can’t shoot any missile then.
If I switch to Dogfight override it works.
Once I noticed also that there was a MALF of Station 4. Could be a conincident or might that be the reason. What I havent tried is to MSL step through the remaining missiles.
Any solution to this problem?

Might not be the same problem but I have encountered similar issues in the past and found the culprit.
During rampstart what I normally would do is check/set slammers to slave and heaters to bore for use with HMCS. Here’s what I’ve noticed. When I switch master mode to A-A via the UFC, I get the slammers by default at slave mode, no issue there. By pressing the right OSB I switch to the heaters and then press the OSB on the left to switch those to bore mode. I then go back to NAV mode and got issues once fenced in.
What I notice is that when switching heaters to bore, the slammers also get set to bore. So the mode seems mode dependant and not weapon dependant. So what I do now is leave slave in A-A mode, also set slave in MRM override mode, and set bore to DGFT override mode. That way I always get the mode I anticipated given the chosen weapon. -
Did you check if you are not out of missile? Or maybe you had AIM-120 B and C model, you had selected the B and you have only C model left?
-
Did you try to shoot the weapon? Not sure if this is modeled but real world if you don’t pickle AND HOLD you can hang the weapon. This is known as a quick pickle.
-
it’s modeled for IAM, but not for slammer. I didn’t know that, I guess it’s because the battery is activated?

I had missiles left to shoot. I shot 3 before and the cues disappered at shooting the 4th.
All C’s btw.it’s modeled for IAM, but not for slammer. I didn’t know that, I guess it’s because the battery is activated?
not sure if that’s the reason. if it happens again i need to cycle thorugh the missiles to check.

Just to make sure:
- your FCR has not dropped its lock for some reason?
- you are not somehow inadvertently going to master arm off?
-
my wager is that you are somehow inadvertently transitioning to BORE, which doesn’t AFAIK have range cues.
granted i think it should still fire though… i find it hard to believe you are losing lock on the bandit(s) and not noticing, anyway.

no. i can lock thereafter tws or stt targets and neither shows range cues.

yeah i thought so too but the MSL didn’t go no matter what.
I’ll try to take screenshots next time it happens

I guess I solved it. I must’ve been the Bore/Slave key that was accidentally pressed. In Dogfight mode the F/16 seems to automatically revert to SLV

If you preset heaters to bore in DGFT override are they uncaged as soon as you switch to DGFT?
-
No, bore just means pointed straight ahead and slave pointed at FCR LOS. They shouldn’t uncage (at least in BP) without a button press. In TD they might uncage if the diamond is on something hot.
Slave/bore is remember per missile. You can set the left AIM-9 to slave and the right AIM-9 to bore. I think the setting is global regardless if you access that AIM-9 in AA MRM or DGFT but I’m not sure.

ref my first reply, as far as I have noticed in BMS it’s global per master mode and not per weapon. When I set A-A mode and change slammer to bore, heater also goes to bore in A-A but remains in bore in dgft.
-
It’s definitely per weapon within a master mode. If you set left missile one way and right missile the other way you can bounce with tapping missile step and watch the settings persist. I do it sometimes intentionally to have hands on select of radar or HMCS mode heater.

I moded the bore/slave key to CMS - Aft on my HOTAS.
I usually dogfight with SLV and take HMCS Radar lock which slews the missile automatically. This way I can also shoot a short range AMRAAM.
If I carry high off-boresight (AIM9X basically) heaters and the target is outside radar gimbals I can switch with CMS-Aft to bore to shoot IR-Lock only.
-
And what do you do when you want to turn your jammer on?

You can also achieve the same result, albeit temporarily, if you press Cursor Enable.
