Log of Connections
-
I tried searching the forms but couldn’t find anything, may have been searching the wrong text, but wondering if there is a log file saved somewhere that shows all connections to the server. The question is not for a one time use server, but for a 24/7 server to see who has been connecting and what duration.
Thanks.

If you run the server in debug mode it will generate an xlog. I know that logs when a player in SP is loaded into the game and out of the game.
Possibly it will note when players enter and exit the server in MP? I’ve never tried it, but it’s worth a shot. It’s doesn’t harm anything.
To run in debug mode use the switch -mono at the end of the target line in Properties>Shortcut.
Of course if I’m wrong, I’m sure one of the devs will correct me. And possibly there is another way??

Thanks Cloud 9, I will give it a shot and let you know.

The log(s) will be in your User>Config folder.
Good Luck,

If you’re running the server on Linux (WINE or in a VM) you could use netstat -tulpen or some other network monitoring tool to see the active connections the server has at any given moment.

If it’s a Linux box all the remote connections will be stored in the audit logs. You could write a 5-10 line script to filter audit logs by remote connection status and port. This wouldn’t help to associate WHO the connection is from as far as an ingame name, but there are other ways to make that connection if that is a requirement.

you could rewrite my tool to poll every x seconds and then write statistics to a database:

but you would need to do that yourself

I don’ think that’s the case per default in my experience (at least on non-hardened Debian and CentOS / RHEL systems).
All the best, Uwe

True…so many *nix flavors out there it’s hard to offer a definitive native suggestion.

Thanks for the responses everyone, so far running the server in debug mode is working fine. Searching the xlog file lets me see what users have connected. That will work for now for what I need it to do.

Cool that worked out for you!
