TGP and WPN Flicker.
-
Hello Forum
I’ve been flying the AGM 65 training mission for few days, (still can’t get handoff on those Shilkas :() however today I began to get scenery tile flicker whenever I switched to either, or both, TGP and WPN on the MFDs.
I’ve read other forum posts regarding flicker, mine appears to be a variation on the theme.
Any suggestions please?
Thanks,
Bayonet.

I’ve had it on installs, not on others. I think I had that in U1. But also there were different theaters involved. With this install (fresh U3), plus the ITO only, and on the same pc and setup, I don’t get any issues in that regard. Hope this helps you narrow it down.
Cheers! -
texture flickering on for example the tgp page is normal and present in bms a long time (like house textures or runway/taxiway textures)
unless you mean ground textures then it’s something else…

I’ve got the same thing with ground textures and seems to be associated with the TGP.

I sometimes have the same problem. Take the Maverick TE for example. I was flying over the sea at the start of the TE and I switched to the AG TGP. Straight away the ground is flicking away like a chessboard - sea tiles flickering with ground tiles. Now if I switch the TGP off, or switch the WPN page on (uncage etc) so I have both TGP and WPN displaying, the flicking stops. Go back to just one, and the flickering returns. See my vid:
And a very brief vid showing both pages on:

Thank you all for your comments.
To clarify, it is the ground texture which is flickering, not simply the TGP/WPN MFDs.
Is there anything in “setup” which can be altered to correct the problem? Thanks again,
Bayonet.

Anisotropic filtering perhaps?
From BMS-Manual p38 (& p244):
Anisotropic Filtering
This enables Anisotropic texture filtering. This is another BMS UI on/off setting which you may find it is
better to override in your graphics card control panel, where you will have more customisation options
available.
Newer AMD cards especially benefit from this as leaving the BMS AF setting selected can result in a
moiré or shimmering effect near coastlines. Forcing AF on (up to 8x) in CCC resolves this issue, or you
can use the config option g_nAnisotropicValue which sets the max anisotropic filter value to use if
anisotropic filtering is ON in the setup UI. Valid values: 0 = max available (default), 2, 4, 8, 16. -
Anisotropic filtering perhaps?
From BMS-Manual p38 (& p244):
Yeah I thought about that mate, but it’s not your typical shimmering that’s occurring; it’s more akin to artifacting in the way it’s randomly flicking tiles in a chessboard. I had just alt tabbed before the video above, so that could be the culprit for me. I often see the same flickering in external missile/bomb views too.
PS: Ask Malc about last night’s blue on blue

Thanks again everybody.
Planehazza would you mind clarifying your “alt tab” comment please.Regards,

If I remember correctly, prior to seeing that glitch, I had minimised the game to the desktop to check a notification from teamspeak. When I alt-tabbed back to the game, I noticed the effect.

Have you tried running in a window Harry?

In an attempt to fix this glitch, no. It doesn’t happen all that often.
