Iron Fortress Campaign - How to get Ground Troops into Seoul
-
Playing as the air general and being aggressive only South of the DMZ (cancelling all dangerous bot deep strikes into North Korea) seems to have worked out so far in my Iron Fortress campaign, 89 Theater.
I’ve pretty much eliminated DPRK air forces and known ground forces in and around Seoul. I’ve also knocked out all of the bridges North of Seoul to slow down DPRK reinforcements (not sure it works because I watched a column driving across the river near a bridge hadn’t yet knocked out so not sure if the game considers the armor using the bridge or if armor doesn’t need bridges to cross rivers). Also, just to be sure I have knocked out most of the army camps and bases around Seoul.
Do I need to do anything else to get U.S./ROK ground forces to move into Seoul? I don’t see any “real life” reason to blow up factories and power plants, our ground forces should just be able to roll on in unopposed but I am not sure if that’s how the game works. Thoughts and comments appreciated!

I usually become frustrated and move them all myself

Heh heh, yeah I guess I’m not too worried about it because the air campaign was a complete success. I was just hoping to trigger the campaign win and according to the manual you have to control Seoul within 5 days. But I don’t even know if that’s true for the 89 campaign lol.

there is an amphibious tag in the unit’s stats that determine whether it can cross rivers. most russian AFVs are amphib and so knocking out bridges does not slow a great deal of their forces much. but it will slow you down a lot, as only very specialized combined forces units have that flag.
edit: serves me right for not reading. jeez.
anyway if you want my advice just turn off set by HQ on a few tanks and as long as you’ve done a fair bit of recon and AI/CAS over seoul just send 'em in to clear everything out.

Well I feel a bit silly there! That’s what GZA036 was trying to tell me I suppose and I thought he must have been talking about Mission Commander or something. Anyway, I never thought to look at the status of a ground unit and certainly didn’t know about that Set by HQ box. Thanks a bunch guys for sorting me out!
