Does the game have predictable moon cycle?
-
Hi, I’m trying to make a TE which should start with moon lighting up the night airbase for some eye-candy.
Now I try to put it into a position where it’s more or less in front of the runway by going back and forth in starting day and time.
However what I’ve noticed is that moon appearance in the night sky is not tied to any logic?Like for example on day 1 at 3 AM it will be in one place, on day 3 in another one, but when I go back to exactly the same time on day 1 - the moon is in a completely different place or is obscured by the Earth altogether.
Am I missing something? Or am I right about the game not simulating proper moon orbit?

There definitely is a moon cycle, but I’m not sure what the days are, but I’ve noticed it rises and sets based on which day your campaign/TE is set on. Probably just a rough simulation of a 28 day lunar cycle, but I’d be interested to know the official answer myself as it has a lot to do with NVG performance, ect which is pretty well simulated in 4.33. Someone who knows, please chime in!

If RL would have a waxing gibbous in the east at sunrise… I would wager no to the lunar cycle…

I do not think so.

Yeah we definitely don’t get a waxing and waning moon, I believe it’s always a full moon for sure, so on that level yeah there wouldn’t be a lunar cycle. But does anyone know the rise/set times within the sim? I noticed (or at least I think I have :p) it does vary based on the day.

It’s definitely waxing in my current campaign

Looks like the game does track the moon’s position depending on game time so you can have it in the same place all the time. With one big caveat. No matter the day or time you launch your mission a first time - there will be no moon even if you saw it before in the editor. But on the following launches it will be in the right, predictable spot.
Of course it’s still a big problem of it not being there without restarting the mission.
