Joy of flight rediscovered
-
After a frustrating BDA meeting, I decided to do a bit of a flight around Gioia Del Colle airbase. Good fun as was loaded w/o any ordinance or bags. Then thought that the open hanger looked like a good idea to fly through, and managed to do it without scraping the paintwork.
For an encore I loaded by Ostee and flew under Oersund bridge. Sweet.
The new (well old now) flight model is so much better. It really does feel as though there is inertia and weight behind the stick. Great fun to fly for the joy of flying rather than keeping the eyeballs peeled for getting shot down in the 1 million different ways on mission.

Good post. It’s rather easy to get too mission-focused, isn’t it? The combat is so awesome in BMS that we don’t make enough time just to fly
I like to jump in to the 3D before joining our server, just to be sure Track IR is working, that the stick is functioning and to ‘pre-load’ the theater so that the pie screen goes fast.
So I made a quick TE for that purpose for our Balkans campaign in a pair of clean Thunderbirds out of Aviano for the dramatic backdrop. Nothing like starting your day off in one of these rocketsleds

I fly just for the fun of sightseeing every now and then However, each flight MUST end with full approach and landing (there’s never too much honing of the landing skills, especially in non-F16 planes).

Yessir, getting up in the air and going through all of the non-combat airmanship stuff (i.e. flying by ground references aka sightseeing, by traditional/legacy navigational aids, formation flying) stuff is a ton of fun.
