IKAROS 4.0.0 / 4.1.0: Operation "Colossus" (Tactical Engagement)
-
Καλώς ήρθατε στην Κρήτη!
WELCOME TO CRETE!
Welcome to your new home for the foreseeable future: Souda Airbase, also known as “Giannis Daskalogiannis”, situated on the northwestern shores of Crete near the beautiful ancient town of Chania.Amid growing tensions between the Attamon Empire and the rest of NATO thanks to Mr. Andogerms ambitions to participate in the major league of world leaders while installing an evermore authoritative regime, our SQN have been deployed to Crete on short notice / QRA to help with and support NATO patrol operations in the area.
Owing to a massive buildup of ground troops on the Attamon Empire’s Western coast, MARCOM expects major offensive ops targeting the Greek islands in the eastern Mediterranean (notably Rhodes and Karpathos).
Our first flight (PACKAGE 4901) is supposed to familiarize the SQN with the new surroundings. We’ll be taking off from RW 29 @ Souda AB, followed by some Air Interdiction practise on the newly created Sitia range located on the eastern edge of the island. We’ll be operating the F-16C-Blk52+ HAF “Peace Xenia”, (HAF == “Hellenic Air Force”), so make sure you are current w/r to the airframe’s switchology and RWR symbology.
Following the range visit, we’ll head over to the island of Karpathos for a touch-and-go at LGKP; then, we’ll pay a quick visit to Rhodes to show some support for the local folks in order to boost their morale –- prepare for a combat descent, some “down in the weeds” navigation, and maybe some tower buzzing at Rhodes International Airport!
On our way back to Crete, we may choose to practise emergency diverts to either Heraklion or Kasteli, or do some AAR training. We have two tanker tracks available (both KC-135 as KC-10 seems to be bugged now now online to the west of Karpathos)
Sanitize yourselves and stay off the local Raki for the time being… celebrations may come soon enough (or not).
OBO the “49th” command: “καλές πτήσεις” –- good flights, clear skies!

This is an update to the “AAR Practise” TE I relased earlier in February, , featuring more AI flights and a story line to tie into the “Battle for Karparthos” TE, with one more TE (yet to be created) based on the outcome of “BfK”. If you plan to fly this TE with your VSQN don’t hesitate to contact me via PM for some extra insight meant only for mission commanders to make things for interesting for your folks
All the best & thanks to the BMS & IKAROS devs for this wonderful sim.

Half of the package already safely on the ground at LGKP
Lots of civvy traffic in this TE
Lots of traffic at the tanker, too

Heading for the SQN bar…
Thanks to “Fieters-49th” and “Dan” for sharing these images.

We will soon give you the ability to make this even better…

Just a quick heads-up: This TE will also work in 4.1.0 if you load it in mission commander and then save it again.
