Dual Vertical Monitor Setup
-
Dear Falcon BMS friends,
I have a question about a dual monitor setup. I have two monitors on top of each other and as in some other sims I would like to enlarge my screen area vertically, so that on the lower screen I would see my cockpit inside and on the upper one the canopy view to the outside. Basically a simple field of view enlargement but vertical, instead of the more common lateral multi screen enlargement. Can you help me here. On DCS I could enlarge the 1920x1080 resolution to 1920x2160 (so double in the vertical) and it worked. Is there something similar in BMS? Please let me know any ideas you have. Thank you very much in advance and best greetings!

I think if you have the resolution desired set up as a desktop resolution and simply delete the dx9display.dsp file from your user/config directory, next time you start BMS the resolution might be available to you in the drop-down box.
Just guessing here - please don’t shoot me down if this is incorrect. Worth a go though?

If your desired resolution doesn’t show up in the drop down list on the SETUP > GRAPHICS page in the UI you might need to add the following config option (from page 248 of the BMS-Manual) to your falcon bms.cfg file (in your \Falcon BMS 4.33 U1\User\Config folder) to make it selectable:
_set g_bAllowAllRefreshRates 1_When set to 1 this option disables the 60 Hz limit of BMS,
allowing BMS to display resolutions with lower refresh rates
(when using HDMI on larger monitors for instance). Default
value is 0; Range 0/1. -
Even if it were possible, I doubt if you’ll get the result you want. Instead of having the normal view on the top monitor and everything below the normal view on the bottom monitor, I think the game would then treat your overall resolution (1920x2160) as one big monitor and it will center your view on that, so you get more sky on the top monitor and a little more cockpit in the bottom monitor. Most likely you’ll end up having your HUD split in half horizontally.

go to folder
C:\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1\User\Configedit with notepad the file
Falcon BMS.cfglocate the line:
set g_fViewlimitPitchDown 0.0 // Overrides all A/C viewlimit_pitch_down values from the 3dckpit.dat files, max. 90.0, only higher values take effect
change the value 0.0 to your desire above 90.
enjoy.

First of all I would like to say a big big thank you to all of you who have addressed my problem so quickly. I will give it a try in the coming days. Just for clarification: the last advice from Arty, is that only a solution to the possible problem mentioned by Ice or is it supposed to be the full solution to my question? Or do I first have to do the steps mentioned by Malc and Darkman? Please advise.
Regarding the warning from Ice…I agree, it was like that with DCS, as well, but by changing the viewpoint I could shift things up enough, so that the HUD starts on the upper screen (which is actually a projector image outside my Sim cabin) and the lower monitor (inside my cabin) shows the cockpit Panel. But I fully agree, the sim treats it like one big screen of the resolution 1920x2160, which is not a problem but exactly what I want. Again, thank you all and I will let you know if it worked out. Happy evening everyone. -
I think that’s one big factor in BMS – you can’t alter viewpoint like you could in DCS. A lot of people with single-screen setups have asked whether they can move the default view so that the pilot “sat higher up” or something like that and the answer was always no.

My post is for your question.
Have in mind giving higher vertical values will kinda zoom out the view so u might want to alter the default fov values in the same file.
Just don’t alter the Maverick fov. There is a description as comments on each line to be sure if it’s the right one.sent from my mi5 using Tapatalk

Thank you very much, dear Arty and Ice. I will try it out and let you know. Give me a couple of days…best greetings and again, thank you!!!

Hi everybody, sorry for taking so much time to try out your suggestions. Unfortunately none of the ideas worked. I just cannot get BMS to recognize my two monitors above one another as one big monitor with a resolution of 1920x2160. Any other ideas out there? It should be somehow the same as extending my view laterally, just I want to do it vertically. Please let me know if you have any more ideas, and for those of you who already suggested various things, thank you so much for your help.
Best greetings! -

Best greetings!Do you have them set up as “extended desktop” with one on top of the other ?
Are you using a Nvidia or AMD GPU ??
I find it strange your having problems if you can manage it in DCS
