SAM Hunting 80s style - F4E with AGM45

So without HARMs, we decided to try something semi-realistic/historical and fly SEAD missions with Phantoms armed with Shrikes, which is historically accurate (as far as I can tell).
Here’s our video from our latest sortie. In hindsight, I may map edit to make the ITO to reflect the Yom Kippur War

All three Historical Israeli wars are in ITO2 for FreeFalcon.

Sadly Falcon cannot model the most basic features of old Russan SAMs and limitations of AGM-45. In RL you could not use AGM-45 as all aspect, in fact you have to fly in the scand zone of the fire control radar which is very, very narrow…
This is S-75M Volhov, SA-75 had 10x10 overlapping zone but never got the LORO mode (left)

Oh trust me, against Patriots, the AGM45 is fairly limting!
BUt i understand what you wrote, and it is a shame BMS is unable to fully/accurately represent a 70s ITO.
Still, it’d be a nice weekend of gaming. -

BMS is intended to simulate mid 2000s F-16s. nothing else is really attempted.
sure, FMs are being worked on all the time, and there are things to improve everything else around. but the core of all the avionics is still mid 2000s F-16s.
you wont see a proper Mig21 or F-4E radar here. yes, it behaves differently then the F-16 radar because the data is different, but it still has the same modes and same displays as the F-16 has… look at it, you have an MFD in the middle of the F-4 displayother then that, I’m not even sure AGM-45s can even lock on patriot FCR, and if it does, patriot engagment range is greater the then shrike kinematic range.
and molnibalage, we are aware for the short comings of BMS AD units and it’s something that will be worked on at some point, and yes, the directionality for the antenna is something we are looking at

Just was a technical addition for the opening post I never “blame” for anyting the BMS4.

never “blamed” you in “blaming” anything.
Just pointed it out
you are correct, there are some “gaps” in the implementation of AD in Falcon. and this is just one of them
