Firecan Only Eyecandy
-
I’m aware that AAA can accurately fire optically-guided at night and through inclement weather, which is inauthentic.
Is it also true that destroying the Firecan radar has no effect whatsoever on AAA in BMS, and it is only there for eyecandy/immersion?
I’m not asking about real life, rather what is actually modeled in-game.

Guess what Gza036 … it is a good question!
I do not really know to be honest. Will try to find an answer … (maybe some other ppl here could answer?)

I’m not sure either but I would guess a AAA “Unit” is modeled like a SAM “Unit” with a shared radar? If so then you can look in the DB to see if the AAA unit has the unit radar checked, and if the Fire Can is assigned to it. Whether it’s still used in the code that way is another question. Would be interested as well to know if the accuracy is effected by destroying a FireCan. Can ground units be assigned more than one sensor like aircraft can? If so then destroying the Fire Can may not have much of a noticeable effect, because the “Visual” sensor still works. All speculation of course, as Dee-Jay noted maybe someone can offer some more solid guidance.

From what I can tell, and IRC correctly, once the FireCan is destroyed they will fire optically with a much lower accuracy/pk and my virtual combat experience seems to confirm this. I notice they will still fire, but defending becomes almost effortless vs when the Firecan is up and active where you must constantly jink while over the unit. I may be totally wrong as the guts of the sim will surprise you from time to time, but I do believe this much is modeled.

Not sure for the unit but I remember from the way past that Falcon had this implemented. Not 100% sure though…

my experience says that firecan assisted AAA is at least twice as deadly
here’s your gain of salt though
