Red Dog's Korea AIP.

Hello Forum.
Two nerdie type questions:
Recently while leafing through the Korea AIP, I noticed that the orientation of both Hoengsong and Sokcho
runways have been changed, why? Both TACANs were out of action, but are now operational.
Also, the header for Hoengsong is, I think, the only one which does not contain the “LOC”, why?
It is shown in the localiser, but I was just wondering why the convention changed here. This is not a criticism, in any way, the detail in the AIP charts is amazing.
Thanks,
Bayonet.

In 4.32 both runway you mentionned were airstrips, waiting to be added as airbase
It was corrected in 4.33. Hoengsong and Sokcho were updated to airbases with non collocated tacan. (YangYang and Wonju)
That’s why you see the changes in the latest AIP V2.1I stopped calling the ILS DME on charts because there is no such thing in BMS. I replaced ILS DME with Localizer following the example of the flip DOD charts that use the term localizer as well.
All charts would probably be updated in due time for the same naming convention … in 3-4 weeks -
Hello Red Dog
Thank you for the reply.
Do you have time for a supplementary?
Your comment “I stopped calling the ILS DME on charts because there is no such thing in BMS.”
My fault, lack of knowledge……would you mind explaining that please? Thanks again,
Bayonet.

Sure,
An ILS DME has the DME (Distance measuring equipment) to the runway threshold (either one of the two antenna)
In BMS, the DME is always from the station (Tacan or steerpoint according to HSI mode
So the ILS are not ILS DME, they are simple ILS with no DME.With the HSI in ILS/TCN or ILS/NAV mode the DME relates to the Tacan or steerpoint respectively, which might be away from therunway threshold.
In a generic BMS airbase, the tacan which is at the centre of the airbase objective might be 1-1.5Nm from the runway threshold.

Understood, thanks Red Dog. Congrats on the AIP.
