BMS versus freefalcon6
-
I have both falcons but can only make one work at a time. Most would probably recommend BMS. But for things such as graphics, ease of play; not so realistic as to make the sim impossible to learn. These are my questions. Please give me your honest advice. Brian

u can decrease the level from ace and fly - play almost like a 10year old kidā¦
gfx wise u can also decrease many options and levels and follow many guides here in this forumā¦ there are some in my hotlist. To give u a hint it flies even in my p4 @3ghz laptop with an nvidia 6800M and 4 gb or ram on 32bitā¦
So u will loose all eyecandy and some minor functionality but u will fly. -
make the sim impossible
Nothing is impossible if you have the will to do it.
Do yourself a favour - look beyond the pretty graphics and ease of play. In the long run, youāll thank yourself for it.

not so realistic as to make the sim impossible to learn.
Who says the sim is impossible to learn?
Do you teach advanced physics to 5-year olds? Do you tackle chemistry at that age? No, you start with the basics, then build up on it, and later on, youāre doing advanced physics and chemistry! But first, you must have a foundation to build upon. Same thing for this simā¦ and for most things in life, really

Especially considering you donāt need to be absolutely effective with every single weapon system in the F-16 inventory in order to succeed. It certainly helps. But it isnāt absolutely necessary. An AIM-120 is pretty effective even, in the hands of a newbie. Itās when the AIM-120 misses and the merge happens that the bad stuff happens, but a newbie can at least enjoy shooting down one or maybe even two aircraft before losing his own. A-G is a little more complicated as far as weapons go, but with custom steer points for GPS weapons. The complicated Laser weapons and mavs can be used less, or put on AI aircraft while the Player carries GPS weapons that are pretty much just āHit X to the steerpoint you set in the map screen, wait for the caret and hold the pickle.ā.
I think people look at the cockpit and all those clickable buttons and think they need to hit every one or know what every one of them does to fly. Thatās simply not true. Hell, I bearely even āflyā. I just climb to altitude, turn on the HDG and ALT autopilots and watch the scenery go by and look for threats and only take the stick when an emergency comes up.

If your ultimate goal is to be proficient in BMS, then definitely stick to BMS. Freefalcon is not as complete a sim and as such will have you learning bad habits, which you will have to unlearn eventually. Like Arty said, you can dial down the realism and learn one thing at a time. However if your goal is to jump in the cockpit and start blowing stuff up, BMS probably isnt your cup of tea, but neither is freefalcon really

Is there a diference in graphics quality between BMS and FreeFalcon ?

Hello, and welcome aboardā¦ I came to BMS almost a year ago after a long drought of not flying. I had left freefalcon after they went under and didnāt like the fact that I didnāt have a 1080 pit avaliable (that I was aware of). Just on a whim, I googled Benchmark Sims, and to my surprise they had recently released 4.33u1. So I said what the heckā¦ It has been nothing short of glorious. The learning curve has been moderate since I have knowledge of previous versions of F4. That being said, I have had one (1), CTD in the past year, and get about 25 FPS on my outdated computer. My 2cents, go with the finest, and donāt look back at FF. Just look at your old screenshots and remember whenā¦

BMS isnāt hard or impossible. You just have to have an open mind, be ready to learn, admit failure, learn more from your mistakes. Everybody learns differently. I donāt do well reading document after document. Instead I go up, make a huge mess, analyse what I did wrong and try again. Finally getting it right is just a huge boost really. Itās not always easy but I always try to leave ego out on the tarmac and bring some humility into the cockpit with me.
And, to repeat others, you donāt need to learn everything at once. I went back into BMS after being off stick for over a decade and itās getting back to me now. After a month, basic flight ops are now all smooth - take off, navigation, landings, ramp starts, etc. A2A weapon delivery and basic FCR operations are going well. A2G delivery with dumb bombs are going well, AGM-88s are fine, LGB/Mavs still give me a 50/50 hit rate so that needs more work. Havenāt tackled any of the new JDAM/SDB weapoms yet. Just take baby steps and youāll get there.
I wouldnāt recommend flying BMS at low realism though as you may learn bad habits or you may overlook certain things that may have you struggle in multiplayer. I fly BMS at 97%, I only have padlock on enhanced until I can get some head tracking gear. (With it set to realistic I feel Iām too much at a disadvantage using my thumb and my single 23" monitor). But everything else is set to full realism which makes it very rewarding to fly, learn and improve.
