Are any of the usual suspect mod 3d cockpits worth it?
-
there are a few f-14’s and f-15c 3d pits out there, there is even an f-117a floating around too! this morning I noodled on google for 15 minutes and found one for the su-27 and the ef2000typhoon.
are these worth the salt?

No.
Any adds to the stock install just makes you deviate from mastering the F16. Enjoy flying a fighter and skip the adds and eyecandy. I have tried a few mods, but came to the conclusion I was just stalling an indepth experience of Bfm, acm, bvr, coms, cas, etc.
Cheers!

There is nothing stopping you flying in other jets, but just remember that they little more than visuals. This is an F-16 sim so all avionics are based around that. As said above, I’d prefer to spend my time mastering flying the Viper

Well, aside from the Flight Model, you are still somewhat “mastering the F16” by flying the other aircraft too. At least all the functionality and operations, because as you say it’s all still based on the same thing. Fly what you want. I often find it fun to try completely random things in the sim, the B1 is one my favorite aircraft to fly around in just for “experimenting”. There are not, however, too many “clickable pits” out there that are fully functional and up to par, so in that sense it’s hit or miss what you add as far as other stuff goes.
Not having the clickable stuff can be frustrating at times, so if you decide to play with these I HIGHLY recommend you take note of all the keystrokes for everything you normally do in a flight… This is particularly important for all the Aircraft Start items such as Batt/Power, JFS, Air Source, etc… There are a lot of things you get used to just clicking and don’t realize they can be hard to find or completely missing in other pits.

I have a love affair with the typhoon, it’s like a more modern twin engine lightweight fighter.

If you are just going up for an occasional visit to the pit, I would consider skipping the ramp start. But yeah sound advice on the callbacks. Until you are very familiar with the alternate cockpit, at the very minimum you need to have your keyboard map out and ready to reference. In my case, I simply created voice commands in VAC for virtually everything and if I am in a pit where I can’t find the switch, I just say what I want (i.e. “Program 3” for CMDS program number 3.)
As others have noted, it’s basically F16 avionics underneath, but the aircraft flight performance and weapon loadouts are modeled pretty good as far as I know. I am pretty sure they are “in the ballpark” of the real aircraft so to speak and certainly give a fairly decent representation and for me that translates into an enjoyable experience. A lot of folks I think are really disappointed that the avionics are all F16. I actually like it that way (at least as an option) because it makes it pretty easy to go from one plane to another. That being said, a true fan of alternate aircraft, say the F117 for example, such a fan would not just want the decreased radar signature, poor ACM performance, and severely limited loadout options, but would also want avionics closely modeled after the real thing (if such information is available).
But yeah, I don’t like knocking the other flyable planes just because the avionics are F16 underneath. The F117 has an F16 pit but you can’t fly it like you can an F16. It is different. It’s limited. It doesn’t even have an FCR, so it does a pretty decent job of letting you fly the plane in its intended flight envelope and for its intended role. I think that’s cool and hats off to BMS for getting it to this point!
