New F18 stick previewed

DCS was showing this off at E3 today…

Rather they show a working Hornet…
-
…was the paddle switch in the right place?
EDIT: no…it isn’t…

I’m in the " a bunch of exotic plastic shit" vs the " high fidelity metal shit, which is plastic on the inside" camp. I’d like to see more joys all the time, touchpads, motion sensing, different switches, that type of thing…than a one off 500 dollar thing every 5 years or so. I think logitech will be the lion soon. This isn’t even capable of being a replica, so no air force license, and it will still be 500 bones, probably 299 for just the grip.

…the real Hornet grip is plastic…some sort of composite, but it ain’t metal.

What was it Al Shepard said about Mercury? Safety factor determined by the lowest bidder.

…heh…go try and buy one, then tell me how “low” the bid came in!
I think there is a metal sub-frame that has a ballistic nylon or some such molding over it…I recall the basic grip has three parts, and if TM has molded it in two halves (like it look like in the video) then they haven’t done it like Mason - the manufacturer - does it (it comes apart top to bottom an not side to side). The WH grip is very nicely made to break down like the real thing, but I guess TM had to take liberties in order to put the paddle switch on the grip…which in RL it is not - it’s on an interface box on the stick column between the stick and the grip.
Still…welcome addition. Would be nice to see them make a set of DDI bezels as well…would be easy for them, just a different shape from the present MFD ones.

TM with their infrastructure being what it is with one step could just make one stick with plug in mods and be done. rather than 5 year 1 step at a time sticks with that they could just concentrate on quality and mod options but this may be the very thing that will
dethrone the king if they don’t start to think outside the box because company’s like Logitech are working on things that will compete with TM sales while they are the best right now competition for the market place is growing.
The Saitek x-65 was that close to being on par with the warthog but the Quality / Software shortcuts killed it a mindset of greed over quality will do that to you every time. the money people spend for your product is an investment in you if you go cheep with your product you will loose the investment. think about it. -

As far as the x-65 being ‘close’ to the warthog, its not, its a distant ( and i mean distant) 2nd or 3rd place.

First. Lets not start with the WH Baes you cant keep doing what you’ve always done and call it progress.
Second. Its not that the X-65 was 1st/2nd/ or /3rd it was different and barring its software and cheep construction it would have sold well at its price point.
Third. DCS not the only game in town there are Plane / Chopper / Space Simms that need left and right hand sticks hence my modular plug and play suggestion.
Not saying that this the way to go but offering a development option ( A you build it type of stick ) -
Lol ok we ll agree to disagree then.

Depends who you mean by “we”? Given that space sims like Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen are arguably best played with two sticks rather than a HOTAS and that the Warthog lacks a twist rudder and that I can get a used car for less than what the Warthog costs, I wonder who would be TM’s primary customer for a $500+ HOTAS if not for the die-hard military sim pilot? (Of which there really are only 3 kinds left I think? BMS… DCS… and IL-2?)
-
…“we” as in we consumers. Consumers are not TMs primary customer - we’re only side biz of gov contract. Hence the “licensed by USAF” on the boxes of both the Cougar and WH. As a matter of fact, I know I have at least one (maybe two) mil-surplus Cougar TQSs in my arsenal, and have seen floods of them on E-Bay from time to time.
Not sure about the new Hornet stick…but if I see “licensed by USN” on the box I’m going to form an opinion…

Well I got mine for 400 and I’m doubting there are many used cars that are worth more than a trip to the junk yard at 400 dollars.
