How to remove a cockpit entirely?
-
Hey guys,
With summer almost upon us, our virtual squadron is preparing for a few public demo events (ranging from street carnivals to airshows). For this, we have prepared a few display flights, and for the audience, we’d like to present a spectator’s view on a big screen, as if you were looking at a real airshow.
Our idea was to set an aircraft on a taxiway and look at the displaying aircraft from the cockpit with TrackIR or padlock. This works extremely well, but even in the F-16, we found that there were still a few times where we had elements in view that we didn’t want seen, e.g. front panel, canopy, wings, …
As such, we’re looking if we can just remove the cockpit entirely. I’ve had a try at this myself already in an old version of 4.33 (so I don’t FUBAR 4.33U3), in the AV8B Harrier (an aircraft we never fly with, even in U3, just in case) and through LODEditor and some editing of the AV8 .dat-files (under Data\Art\ckptart\AV8), I’ve been able to remove the regular cockpit without it reverting to the F-16C-52 pit, but I’m still left with these buttons and switches, that are clearly arranged in an F-16 cockpit layout.
Does anybody know if and how we can get rid of those as well, for an entirely clean view?
Note that for some manoeuvres, the display pilots need to know where the camera is located, so we do not want to remove the outside model of whatever aircraft we’re modifying.PS: We’ve also attempted EyeFly to get the outside view, but we found it too difficult to stabilise the camera during / after rapid movements.
Cheers,

Iirc there is an empty lod in the database. Export it and import it in the pit u want.
Don’t forget to backup first so to be able to revert back.sent from my mi5 using Tapatalk

Like this you mean?
Make sure to remove the cockpit (cockpit dat file)
Taxi it to a point where you want, shut down and open the canopy.
As soon at the airplane of concern is airborn use padlock.
Also set the view zoom on an axis.Gr Falcas

Indeed like that video.I tried your suggestion of removing both files under “Art\ckptart\AV8” before, but without those files, the Harrier just reverts to the default F-16C Block 50/52 cockpit, so that’s no good unfortunately.

Sounds interesting. Any idea how / where I can found out which one that is?

No, don’t remove. Open it up and look for the model parent nrs for the cockpit and wing.
Changes these numbers to an empty parent. Been too long ago and on my phone at the moment so can’t give you the exact details. Try parent number “0”.One other thing about that vid, it has been done 4.32 over a network.
The negative result is the exact position update. You notice this when you do a quick roll. The network code at that time tried to predict the movement until it gets the next update. You see the F-16 overbank and roll back again. Before starting to record, first get into the air and select padlock on the recording PC. Land and get back into position. Maybe dump some fuel to get real good performance. Because you already selected padlock, it will remain even if you have landed.
I have planned to redo the vid with a newer version for a long time already and mixing it with same images of my cockpit. But don’t seem to find the time with all the coding.
