HMCS Questions

Yes! I re-read that this weekend (rtfm?!).
I just have to stop whining and practice with it. This thread coulda been handled that way, but I got some extra feedback that’s nice on guys techniques.

The 90 degree AIM-9X HOB ability is God-like in a knife fight
90° ??? How is that supposed to work with no optical sensor and radar gimble limits of the antenna less than 90° ???
The Aim-9x probably can squint cross-eyed that much … but not your HMCS !?
Hmm wait… the missile-seaker slaved to the HMCS maybe?

Yes. Its called BORE mode as i explained few posts ago.
You do not need radar lock. If you can see your targets and have AIM-9s you just use HMCS (or even HUD). AIM-9s are not radar guided so they can work without.AIM-9X has thrust vectoring and HOB FPA seeker. It was designed to work with aircraft equipped with HMCS to provide HOB capability. Pythoon 5, R-73, ASRAAM, IRIS-T… …All have nice HOB, however R-73 uses eyeball seeker instead of god’s eye FPA.

/offtopic, sort of,
i’ve had to add it to my personal crosscheck to shut OFF the hmcs right before going precontact or landing

I think that’s what most virtual pilots I know do as well. They keep it on almost all the time.
I actually do the opposite : I only use it for WVR air combat. I don’t like having it in my field of view when I don’t need it, but in my experience I’m usually the only one doing that. -

VW and/or RW. And when I mentioned turning it off for tanking and landing, I was talking RW SOP…AFAIK, for Navy ops. Fly Navy!

To be honest, I don’t have the slightest idea what your point is.

If link16 is ever modeled then you might want to keep it on a lot more because it’ll give you lots of extra useful symbology all the time.
-
Do link16 also brings extra symbology on TGP screen like in A-10C?
And it would be nice to get datalinked target symbols on TGP for IDM as we have no link16 ATM, even when we all love to have it…So devs please give us link16…

It does. There are some Dutch F-16 videos out on youtube where you can see what another wingman is targeting (his SPI).
