Streaming Experiments and Settings - OBS and Youtube
-
Turns out, that streaming on youtube can deliver better quality results - and faster, then uplaoding videos in high bitrate quality formats after rendering - due to the fact, that streams are (unlike uplaods) not re-processed and “****ed-up” by youtube., meaning the source file in streams need way less bitrate than in uplaods in order to maintain same end quality.
After testing with different “Open Broadcaster Software” - OBS settings and youtube … and benchmarking different settings …i think i figured it out.
I can NOT push it to 60fps with my system and that resolution though… 48fps has to do for me. Maybe you can, but 48 is smooth.I have to add… in order to use a 8000-9000 bitrate… you need to have 10Mbits/sec uplaod at least. 9000 for stream… 1000 overhead for TS and game itself. otherwise your game will lag badly.
and do NOT select “variable bitrate” in OBS . .keep it constant, meaning “throttled” for the very same reason
and also consider in what “set g_bClientServerConnection” category you fall … after having spent 9000kibts for stream … if the rest available is still 5Mbits/sec less or more

Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions:https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2853702?topic=2853713&hl=en&pageId=100243689448484788023the trick is to find a mid-point between
- native resolution aka no scaling down
- just right quality (bitrate) and
- smoothness (48fps does a good job)
if your screen resolution is 1920x1080… you dont need to go 1440p … but if it is 2560x1080 (as mine) … 1440p and only 1440p makes it sharp
- downscaling is the bad for quality, regardless if bicubic or lanczos method. better to maintain the native resolution
- but to maintain quality at native resolution there is a formula: screen resolution width x height x FPS (30,40 or 60) / 10000 = bitrate to choose
- in terms of cpu profile in OBS … “veryfast” or “superfast” does a good job… depending where you get better FPS INGAME … and on your system

Note:
1. Twitch limits to 3500 bitrate. Anything more can get your account banned !
2. if your screen resolution is 1920x1080… you dont need to go 1440p … but if it is 2560x1080 (as mine) … 1440p and only 1440p makes it sharp, but youtube will take time before the stream is converted to 1440p. 1080p is instantly available.
