Hot Key for switching between AA missiles, instead of pressing MFD button
-
Hello.
I spent ages now to research if there is a way to switch for example in AA mode between Sidewinders (different types) and Amraams? I dont find any function in the keyfile editor I could bind to a key or a joystick button. Its really annoying when dogfighting to go back to the MFD and pressing the OSB button by mouse in the cockpit when I need to switch between different missile types quickly. Any advice is highly appreciated. -
hold the missile step switch
short press = step station of same missile type
long press = step missile type -
Thanks for the quick reply! That worked perfectly. I just didn’t know I had to long press it.

Sorry for pushing that thread up again. But I am still looking for a quicker way switch from SRM to MRM. The long press function is really slow when I am in dogfight mode and decide I want to fight all of the, lets say, approaching 4 targets with Amraams, because they are at 9nm away for example, thus too far for sidewinders but still close enough to lock them up in ACM mode. So I lock one target up, long press missile step, get an Amraam selected, then fire it, but the next time I want to fire, I’d have to repeat, because the Sidewinder is selected again. So I still want to be locking targets up in ACM mode, which is very quick, but dont want to switch every time from SRM MMR. So I found that when I locked up a target in ACM mode I just have to press “M” to go to missile mode and fire an Amraam, which is great for me. But if I do so, which is go to dogfight ACM mode lock a target up, then press “M” and long press “simPrickle” as I am used to, when firing Amraams, nothing happens. My missiles won’t fire. Not every time but too often for my taste. What am I doing wrong here?

120’s need a long hold on the pickle about 1 sec
9’s just need s short hold pickle less than 1 sec -
Yes so that long hold is what I am doing. As usual I do a long hold, but the 120 won’t fire. In the weapons MFD the “RDY” changes to “REL” but nothing happens. Like I said, I press D for dogfight, lock the target, press M for missile mode. Then long press. It works usually, but not always. This time a 120 was stuck again, so I tried the missile step switch to switch to 9’s but even they wont fire, I kept pressing missile step again and again and after the 3rd change of weapon I could finally fire a shot. Maybe its a bug in BMS ?! EDIT: i did some more investigation. When I am fighting in a fighter sweep mission, every time I break the lock, to lock another target the F16 switches back from 120’s to 9’s. If I do the same in a “dogfight-mission” which is, enter dogfight mode by pressing D then after a lock pressing M, I can break the lock, lock up another target and the 120’s are still selected and the F16 wont switch back to 9’s again, after firing a 120.

Master Arm on?

If you want the ACM/120 combo you can set up AA master mode with it and then your override switch can select between ACM/AIM9, ACM/120, and CRM/120 quickly with dogfight/cancel/MRM respectively. Alternately you can use AA as a CRM/AIM-9 setup.
AIM-120 launch should be the same in any radar mode provided you have a lock of some kind.

Thanks for the reply. As I am practicing my air combat skills at the moment, I realized that the F16 uses a different setups in “fighter sweep” missions compared to “dog fight” missions. In “dog fight” missions I can ACM lock, then press M and the AIM120 stays selected for all the future locks. But in fighter sweep it looks like the modes works differently. I lock up with ACM then press M, fire the AIM120 fired, but the F16 switches back to sidewinders again automatically.

No, the mastermodes work the same regardless what sort of mission you fly. The F-16 switches to sidewinders automatically after firing an MRM under one condition: that you ran out of MRMs.
Also of note… there is a manual included in your install folder. Details this stuff. Like the long press, for example.

Thanks guys for all the replies. @blu3wolf, you gave the final hint. I think I figured out. The F16 behaves normally in all the other missions you fly, because you don’t have the unrealistic case to have infinite amount of missiles. But in “fighter sweep” you have unlimited missiles. So the mastermode seems to be tricked into thinking the F16 has no more MRM missiles instead and switches to SRM. Thats at least my explanation, and maybe it’s how programmers back in 1998 solved the unrealistic feature of unlimited missiles . I can live with that now
