Pc strength question
-
CPU is fine RAM is better then fine but the lack of a dedicated GFX card “may” bottle neck some times. You could always just install it and find out? Falcon 4 can be had dirt cheap now. I assume this is a laptop? if you are not already into aircraft sims a word of advice, In my opinion this sim must be used at minimum with a HOTAS (Hands On Throttle and Stick) even better with a 22" or above 1920x1080 display, TrackIR and some rudder pedals running on a dedicated desktop. Arrow keys and a track pad are not going to cut it.

I’m guessing this is a Lenovo laptop? Might be best to give us the actual model number or a link to the spec sheet of the laptop. Looking at your CPU, the AMD A10-7800 is a bit on the weaker side but should be capable. 12GB RAM is good too, as is the 64-bit OS. The next question is what is your GPU? I can’t seem to figure it out from your Dx report, aside from that it’s an R7-based GPU. That may be a strong factor on what performance numbers to expect, but at 1920x1080, that’s not asking very much from your hardware. I guess you’ll just have to set it to Max Performance and keep it plugged in and well ventilated
I think it’s a discreet GPU; ie built into the CPU.
I thought “discrete GPU” meant separate GPU… like desktop GPUs…

Download and run this, it will tell you everything you wanted to know and more,

It is a Desktop. I don’t know why I redacted the model number. I’m addle brained at this hour. It is a Model number 90BG003JUS (Those are all zeroes, not the letter O).
Not sure what my GPU is.
I’m an original Falcon 4.0 owner from Dec '98 and only recently realized it was being kept alive and improved! Had a nice TM HOTAS with dual throttle back in the day, but can’t find them I’m gonna start a new thread with member recommendations for a nice stick for under $200. Going to have to look into track IR and pedals
-
well run BMS and test it…
If Falcon recognizes the card the vga mem looks fine but the DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz) is a bit ouch… -
Aha! Spec sheet here but unfortunately, it seems like you do NOT have a discrete GPU. Maybe you can buy one and plug it in? Not sure what your motherboard is like and if it has any free PCI-E slots.
At the very least, install Falcon 4.0 then BMS (shameless plug if you need help) and see what your performance is like.

I know it’s more than $200 but my recommendation is a WH stick…. or a modded Cougar if you can find one for cheap.
Obviously, these recommendations assume you’re serious about Falcon… if you’re just “testing the waters” or checking if you still have the desire to fly, then I understand you’ll want a cheaper stick, but I don’t have much experience here… -

“A discrete GPU is a Graphics Processing Unit that is not part of the CPU”

That’s equal to winning the lottery.

A good entry level stick and throttle has been a bit of a unicorn for the flight sim world for a while and just another un needed barrier for people looking to get started with flight sims. But recently Thrustmaster released the T.16000 at $100 cnd and I think this fills that gap nicely. I have not had any hands on time with it but reviews and opinions are positive it might be just what you are looking for. I currently am using the discontinued X-55 myself but have allot of mixed feelings about it. But for the $200 CND I paid it was worth it. The TM Warthog is currently selling for $600 cnd and is beyond my price range unfortunately but represents one of the best flight sticks ever made. CH Products also make a no frills stick and throttle cheap but I am unsure if it is good or not.

As stated your memory amount is plenty fine but that is a weak CPU/built in GPU for gaming. I see that you are running 1920x1080. At that resolution your performance will probably be lacking and you might have to really skimp on eye candy or drop to a lower resolution for better performance. Only testing on your end will tell how it behaves. Here is a link to Tom’s Hardware Guide on the CPU in your computer testing specifically with the built in GPU versus discrete graphics.

Just one thing here guys. If you have an open PCI-e slot on your motherboard, then all you would need is to get a mid range GPU ($80 or even less), and turn off the onboard GPU in the bios. Everything else on his system is fine.

…… mid range GPU ($80 or even less), and turn off the onboard GPU in the bios. Everything else on his system is fine.
"Mid range & $80 in the same sentence ? Which planet are you ordering from ?
Mid range is from $300 to $550.
$80 will get you a good flashlight and a few weeks worth of batteries.
And besides he posted “Card name: AMD Radeon R7 Graphics” I don’t think that’s on die.
PS my bad it does have a “R7” APU

Must’ve missed quite a few sales then. That, or your local lottery doesn’t go above £300……

I think you are having too many high expectations for a HOTAS and having too low a price budget for it. You can have a cheap HOTAS, but it won’t be very good for very long. You can have a good, durable HOTAS, but it won’t be entry-level or cheap. You can’t have everything you want for the price you want, unfortunately.
For me, I would rather buy an expensive thing once and enjoy it from day 1 rather than buying a cheap thing twice or thrice and having bad experiences each time it starts going bad.
-
going whole hog is worth it.
granted, you should get your feet wet first. getting a semi-disposable 30-100$ stick first and flying around for a while until you figure out whether laying down real cash for a setup may be worth it. you want to make sure at least that flight sims are really for you before you throw down 600$ or more on gear.

Your right. I’m on a different planet……

Or try around $125 if he needs a special card for his current rig.
… and what I ment by “mid range”, was mid range for BMS. 2Gb DDR3 card would do just fine.
If the poster wanted to push his system further, then a new rig is in order. But since he wishes to simply run BMS, then his current set up would do just fine (after upgrading the GFX card of course).

Just sold an UberNXT modded one at £250 and FSSB at £350 not very long ago. Take a look at the For Sale forums to give you an idea of price ranges.

Definitely not anywhere near “winning the lottery” territory.
