HARM PB mode
-
Pls correct me if I’m wrong:
From what I read in -34 and also Training Manual, to use PB it is recommended that the active steerpoint be set to your PPT (since that’s where you ‘know’ the SAM is at)
But I find that in the briefing UI, using RECON page and pinpointing the radar site, I can’t set it as a PPT. It only allows STPT 1 to 24 and 81 to 99 I think. So wouldn’t it be better to use an active STPT in the briefing UI, RECON and set the radar site as the STPT would be more accurate?
Cheers!

For stationary radars… I use ‘recon’ and set a precision steerpoint, usually at #99 and counting downward, then I fire EOM mode.
For mobile SAMs or targets of oppty where I don’t have a precision steer, I usually fire RUK mode toward a stpt in the vicinity … either a PPT or sometimes I’ll use FCR to establish a new markpoint at my best guess, along the radial toward the emitting radar.
PB is sort of the awkward middle … I really don’t have a good use case for it, except lofting magnums at max range (it features a lofting cue on the HUD) to do “timed suppression” eg. for attack flights to trespass SA-10 coverage.
I’ve been wondering if there are differences in the new target-isolate glide/flex modes, with respect to EOM/PB/RUK, but I haven’t done any testing to look for any differences in that regard.

For POS shots visual alignment is plenty good. I don’t know if EOM benefits or not. I’d test by visually aligning and then compare with actual coords. I bet it’s within half a mile. The only time when super exact coords would matter is with AGM-88D which we don’t have.
Yes TI/GS applies to POS.
