Crosswind Landings / "Impossible Landing" TE / Crosswind landing advice
-
I haven’t attempted this TE yet, but there’s an expression we use for a crosswind landing: “Wing down, top rudder”
This means you roll slightly into the wind and use opposite rudder to keep your flight path lined up with the runway. Hopefully this helps some people.

Do you have analog rudder control?
Rudder is useful ony when on ground … do NOT use it in flight!

No way! In light airplanes or airplanes with small wingspans maybe…
But certainly not in the 16. I remember in the T-38 you crabbed down final and land in a
Crab. Touching the rudder meant certain death -

In the F-16, there is something called ARI (Aileron Rudder Interconnect). Basically it will apply rudder if you put some roll and apply some roll if you put some rudder. So you can’t land like that ! You have to accept to land sideways and at touchdown the nose will go back in the runway axis.
As said by Deejay, never touch the rudder inflight except during some bfm maneuvers !

was looking for the code one magazine article on the subject but seems to be gone, anyway long story short rudder usage during xwind landings in the f-16 is prohibited.
-
I was on KeeBee (EBBL) and a IP told me they never use rudder on landings just set your drift co and you will be fine i really like the feeling you get when the plane touch the ground
Nice job there

Woho \o/ I managed it
Pretty scary flying only by the ILS at 400ft. You don’t see the runway until you’re about to hit it. If I get such weather in the campaign I’m just going to chill out by the tanker until it clears -
Because of FPS isses I do not have video, only screens.
-
Don’t forget!!!
-
I made it in first time with my new $10 snopy joystick. ok my jet was in one piece but that was not a good landing.

Don’t forget!!!
Hmm
I tried this, I called for QFE when I was turning in on final and by the time I had landed the pressure had changed enough for altimeter to show 200ft off. I don’t have a PPL (yet :D) but I don’t think it changes that fast IRL or it would be useless. Also, it says mb (mbar) on the altimeter but the number is actually in inHg … -
The problem for most is the new fly-by-wire model. It is a little more responsive to commands. The trick is not to fight the controls but to fly the plane.
You wanted a realistic model you got it.
Personnaly, so far I love everything that you guys did with this new mod. MP improved exponentially, fly-by-wire, graphics, effects, avionics, everything is much better and much more stable.Did a couple of Carrier landings with first the F-16 but it seems the hook does not work on that model and then with the hornet wich was a success.
Last night, 7 of us flew online to test MP connection. No lag, no freezes it was all smooth as silk and so far we have no real bugs to report.
thanks again! You guys did a fantastic job.

Since the F16 is a tricycle type landing gear, landing with the nose at a crabbed angle is no big deal (other than side loads being on the main gears). Once on the ground, the CG of the jet should swing the nose back in line with the direction of flight.
Not applicable to tail draggers… do this on a tail dragger & you get a ground loop!

Instrument ILS approach…
… working on vidéo annotations for explanations

You typed the FREQ. What is the functionof TACAN BAND currently…? (75X)
-
@molni you need it for the HSI at least.
Very nice landing! I can’t make an approach without the HUD like that even in good weather haha

It was ILS frequency if I got you right.

Great video Dee-Jay! I am literally in awe of what I just witnessed. It made me realise how much I have still to learn.

bms 4 is the only falcon version where hsi has a new meaning & you can truly practice ifr with.
