Update 4

been gong awhile, installed update 4 Started playing the Balkans Second or third flight out About to the target I just blew up and died I went to after flight briefing shot down by S-10 been flying the same campaign never saw S-10s before the update Was they added to the update? :uham:

What are you talking about? S-300 systems are passives, you never get an alarm when a SA-10 shoots you, rarely you’ll get a spike “10” on your RWR but maybe will be too late then
-
they are most definitely not “Passive” they have a big huge radar.
However, the way flight simulators usually model RWR systems is somewhat wrong due to code limitations (usually) and simplification due to lack of non-classified data (most of the time).
the S-300 has a phased array AESA radar, which means that only few beams go over the target aircraft at random intervals (to the RWR) and in different PRF and frequencies. Which makes the RWR not recognize the radar signal as a threat and it filters it out as “RF noise”. however, when the missile is in the terminal guidance fase. the radar needs to provide higher resolution target tracking data to the missile, so the signals sometimes to above the “Noise gate” and show up as a threat.
I’m not 100% that BMS takes all this into account, and actually does that. But it is something that needs to sit very very hard in everyone’s brain. RWR are fancy piece of tech but it’s not a magic crystal ball. It has limitations, pitfalls and problems.
and the more advanced BMS gets, the more Real the systems will become, I really hope that some day we’ll have a physics based radar and RWR in BMS, but that’s very far ahead in the future, as everything is mostly classified (and simulating everything will consume so many CPU cycles that it’s not something reasonable on current CPUs)

P, it’s been my impression that you will probably get a “10” RWR warning, it might even get “boxed” as in locked on. You will NOT get launch warning, as Uri said. Generally, when I see a"10" on the RWR I immediately notch( which I know does help much with Grumbles),and if I get a lock on warning I immediately split-s to very low altitude to a notch, dumping chaff all the way.

diamonds just mean most dangerous contact, not necessarily that it’s targeting you.
you can guarantee though that if you see 10 on the RWR for more than 5 seconds and you are within ~50nm you should be heading for the dirt regardless. you have to treat the system like an AMRAAM essentially: if it can fire on you, assume it already has and start your defense, which in this case means running for the deck, the hills, or both.

The Ringtone when my boss calls, is the sound from the SA-10 in the RWR (back from v4.32).
By the way I spent my sig to the SA 10^^.Last Week I played around with the SA10.
If there are a lot of planes around you, you might see spikes while SA10 engages other flights.
If you are alone, probability the sa10 engaged you when you see the spikes is very high.
Get low, turn & burn be enough when you are up to ~40nm close. When you are closer and it engaged you, a HARM might save you. The S-300 Missiles for long shots go up to 80k ft and then go down on you.
The flight to ceiling takes quite a while, enough time for an AGM88 to engage it.P.s.: Put RF to quiet or silent might raise survivability. At least in RL Sa10 can use your Radar Altimeter, Radio com, ecm, etc for passive observation

Thanks for the tidbit. I’ve just started flying campaigns and jumped off with the Balkins. I’ve yet to make it back to home plate after a processing a PPT or while hunting for a AAA moving target. Every time I get an S10 nail up my ass or a Mig 21 I didn’t see. So the way to go: RF to quiet/silent, pop counter measures, turn and burn, head for the deck and, egress out of the treat area -if you can. Sounds like a plan. I certainly need one cause its been frustrating.
