How to create navigation lights ?
-
thanx for the guide Lazystone.
May I ask:
1. why the VertexPaint modifier?
to get a pType 20 in this case.
… from PinkyandBrains Beginners guide
@WaveyDave:To make things glow use pType 20
Post#66 by PumpyHead
@PumpyHead:You also have to have no smooth groups and per vertex coloring in order to get pType 20 if I recall correctly.
@WaveyDave:For the polys you want to glow be sure they don’t have a smooth group set.
It’s not the texture having the alpha layer that triggers the correct pType, it is the way the material is set-up. So set the material as per the document.
As per the document means “Surface pType settings.pdf”
2. not for this but for lights the switch 0 if u set it on it lights up day and night and if off it lights only in the night? Right? Sorry but keep forgetting this.
Dunno, look at the runway lights in LE for example to see how they are set.

In addition to the pType being correct, the texture has to be DXT3 or 5 with Alpha being black. In fact, you can just map your lights to the existing Red/Green/White light textures. I can’t remember their number, but I think it’s 167 or in that area. Check one of the other models.

The additionally new school part:
Use notepad and open \Data\Sim\ACDATA\f16bk52.datScrolling down you’ll find those entries:
Light1Position -4.9 15 -2 Light1Color 0 .4 0 Light1Type 3 Light1Radius 25 Light1Attenuation .7 Light2Position -4.9 15 1 Light2Color 0 .4 0 Light2Type 3 Light2Radius 25 Light2Attenuation .7 Light3Position 12.4 2.7 1.3 Light3Color 0 .4 0 Light3Type 3 Light3Radius 25 Light3Attenuation .7 Light4Position -4.9 -15 -2 Light4Color .4 0 0 Light4Type 3 Light4Radius 25 Light4Attenuation .7 Light5Position -4.9 -15 1 Light5Color .4 0 0 Light5Type 3 Light5Radius 25 Light5Attenuation .7 Light6Position 12.4 -2.7 1.3 Light6Color .4 0 0 Light6Type 3 Light6Radius 25 Light6Attenuation .7 Light7Position -18.00 -1.5 -11.24 Light7Color .2 .2 .5 Light7Type 1 Light7Radius 28 Light7Attenuation .1 Light8Position -18.00 1.5 -11.24 Light8Color .2 .2 .5 Light8Type 1 Light8Radius 28 Light8Attenuation .1
Copy/paste these entries into your AC.dat (in your case C17.dat)
and adjust the xyz postion values, etc. to match your model.I hope that helps.;)
Cheers,
LSHi, I am trying to add those navigation lights on the C17 and C5, just for night training.
Where can I look for the exact values to change in order to match the dimension of the wings and ailerons of those aircrafts?I don’t want to go for lucky changes because I understant this is not a child toy.
Thanks in advance

Use LODEditor and open your model in edit mode.
In the view window move the mouse to the lights place,
and read the x,y,z distance from CG to the cursor spot
from the "status bar"above the view window.I hope that helps.

I will try and hope I will survive….
