Any way to zoom in on MFD with TIR active?
-
There’s actually another way to do this, but you’d have to do a fair bit of modding yourself… there’s an equivalent feature to the “Topgun Views” but for the cockpit interiour, called “Custom Views”. These define fixed camera views located inside the cockpit which can be focused on the MFDs, the ICP, the fault display…
Configuration is very much like the topgunview, but inside the 3dckpt.dat
customview <x> <y> <z> <yaw> <pitch> <roll> <fov> <clickable></clickable></fov></roll></pitch></yaw></z></y></x>
yaw pitch roll fov are in degrees. Caption should be set to “nocaption” if you don’t want any text displayed. Clickable can be 0 or 1.
The relevant commands are
OTWToggleCustom3dPitView -1 0 0XFFFFFFFF 3 0 0 1 "View-Toggle Custom 3dPitMode" OTWNextCustom3dPitView -1 0 0XFFFFFFFF 3 0 0 1 "View-Next Custom 3dPit" OTWPrevCustom3dPitView -1 0 0XFFFFFFFF 3 0 0 1 "View-Prev Custom 3dPit"
There’s no limit of the number of views that can be defined.

This may be the solution for the F16 2 seats 3d cockpit
Can you please provide a little more information about that?

Hmmm, not familiar with the jargon –- TIR ?? Thanks !!

Simply set Z axis with a big dead zone and expo curve … ! Take a look to my TIR profile located into your BMS Joystick folder…

There’s a TIR profile that comes with BMS? I wonder if that can be ported over to FreeTrack.

I had this same problem as mvrk222 described (MFD’s not legible at default view). I worked around this by setting FOV control to ‘zoom’ (rather than Z axis) in the Setup menu. That way I can use my Freetrack to look at the relevant MFD (or anything else for that matter) and lean forward to zoom right in. Can have the MFD practically filling my screen.
I am intrigued by the solution that Retro put forward though.

Never noticed this thx

Sorry thread necromancing, but I have question regarding callbacks for the custom pitviews.
I’d like to define 2 custom views (full zoom on the left mfd and on the right mfd) and assign them to shifted DMS-Left and DMS-Right.
Going by the example above you cannot directly jump to a certain view, but only cycle through them?
I guess that’s no biggie if you only have two views defined, but I was wondering if there’s a way to jump to a certain view via keypress or DX button directly.
Also, can someone provide some good defaults for the MFD views or are these resolution / head position dependent?
Would I need to edit each and every 3dckpt.dat file for the model I’m flying at the moment?
Thanks in advance & all the best, Uwe

I did not try to mess with this setting but there is a line in falcon bms.cfg that might be interesting for you :
set g_nTrackIRTimeout 1000 // The time (in ms) without input after which TrackIR deactivates itself and relinquishes control to alternative devices
By default when TrackIR is paused falcon switches to the default view after one second. Maybe you can try to increase this number and see what it does ?

Why not just lean in? TIR can control Z-axis for zoom. Also, can simply Pause TIR and use the mouse wheel to zoom in on an MFD. Mouse will control POV if you pause TIR (I personally set Pause and Reset TIR to voice commands). On that note, though I’m sure there are other ways, VoiceAttack can be used to make a keypress macro(s) that could perform the actions you need. “Turn off TIR - Reset View to Center - Drag View to MFD1 - Zoom In” and of course, one to reset to normal. Toss those commands on a voice call, and you’re good to go.

Good morning, Gentlemen.
Just for your information: that TIR profile by Dee-Jay has been made for BMS 4.32 and TIR 3, if I’m seeing correctly.
But it works very pretty fine with BMS 4.33.5 and TIR 5 too!
This is my experience. After I installed it, I’m having wonderful flights. Finally! Thanks a lot, Dee-Jay. I owe you a cold one of your choice.
With best regards,

fwiw i use an analog knob on my throttle to change ‘fov zoom’. doesn’t interfere with tir
