Flounders X52 pro setup.

Hey Guys,
I bought Falcon when it first came out and thought it was great. Wow, what you guys have done is incredible. I haven’t used BMS in over 10+ years, so I’m a little lost. My question is, how does one switch from Bold: Button designation, to Normal: Unshifted Layer and to Italic: Shifted Layer for stick and throttle. I can’t seem to use POV to scan or brakes to stop plane. Little help please.
Thanks

Not 100% I understand what you’re asking, but ….
Bold Button Designation … The button is the button. It’s just the button name; an identifier. Below, the Bold Button Designation, “Fire B” is just the name of the button.
Normal Unshifted … is what happens when you press that button. In the “Fire B” case … NWS A/R DISC MSL STEP Switch. The unshifted state is just pushing the missile step button.
Italic: Shifted Layer … The shift layer virtually adds another layer of commands; it allows each button to perform a second function. You access the shift layer by holding the shift button, in this case the Pinky Switch. With the Pinky Switch held ‘Fire B’ becomes Stores Configuration instead of Missile Step. When you release the Pinky Switch, you’re back to the unshifted layer and ‘Fire B’ is the Missile Step button again.
The default Flounder X52-Pro profile does not have panning views. It is designed for use with TrackIR. There was a modification posted for no TrackIR …. View panning was added as the main (unshifted) POV function, DMS was moved to the shift layer and Trim was moved to the keyboard. See: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?23661-Flounder-s-X52-Pro-Keyfile-DX-Profile-for-BMS-4-33&p=349137&viewfull=1#post349137
An additional modification added 8-direction view panning. See here: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?23661-Flounder-s-X52-Pro-Keyfile-DX-Profile-for-BMS-4-33&p=481736&viewfull=1#post481736
Wheel Brakes should be Shift + 1st Trigger Detent …. Hold the pinky switch, pull the trigger … should brake while moving on the ground.

For not being sure of my question, I believe you hit the nail on the head! Thank you much!

Agave_Blue,
I copied as suggested and put file in user/config but still can not pan. I also tried to load using setup but it did not recognize. Any suggestions as to what I’m doing wrong?
Thanks again

Does everything else seem to work and it’s only panning that is an issue?

I believe so, but I must admit this is the first time setting up stick and throttle. Before this giving this a try, I just plugged in the X52 and used what it allowed me to. I’m not really computer savvy but can figure most things out sooner or later. I never used TrackIR, is it easy to use or setup. Is there another profile that you would recommend? I’m open to all suggestions. Thanks again for response.

The reason I asked if it was only panning that was the issue: If everything else works, maybe it’s something specific to the POV button and not the profile? Are you sure it works? In the Windows game controller, is it responding properly? Under the MFD tab is ‘Clutch Enabled’ un-checked?
If the device is working properly and if you’ve done the following properly:
- Installed and setup the original Flounder DX profile as shown here https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?23661-Flounder-s-X52-Pro-Keyfile-DX-Profile-for-BMS-4-33&p=340189&viewfull=1#post340189
- Copied the no TrackIR keyfile from this post https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?23661-Flounder-s-X52-Pro-Keyfile-DX-Profile-for-BMS-4-33&p=349137&viewfull=1#post349137 , and loaded it;
- Loaded the Saitek SST .pr0 profile;
- If desired, changed the 4-way panning to 8-way panning as indicated here https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?23661-Flounder-s-X52-Pro-Keyfile-DX-Profile-for-BMS-4-33&p=481736&viewfull=1#post481736
If you’ve done those things and it’s still not working, I’m not sure what the issue is.
As far as TrackIR, it’s super simple and I can’t imagine going back to flying without it. The biggest knock on TrackIR (or an alternate head-tracker) right now is the coming maturation of VR. TrackIR is basically ‘plug and play’ and there is a profile by yassy on the site here somewhere. There’s also a TrackIR profile included with the BMS install docs at: x:\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1\Docs\Key Files & Input\Device Setup Guides & Profiles\TrackIR
I’m sure you can find some basic setup tutorials/reviews on YouTube.

Agave_Blue,
Sorry to keep asking for help. Everything looks good, but now the brakes don’t work. Pull pinky and trigger, but I jus keep on rolling. Suggestions?

Well, it’s hard to say. Basically, it doesn’t make any sense that everything works except one command. So, just to be sure, do your other shifted functions work? In other words, is it a ‘shift state’ issue overall?
Although this applies to all shift functions it may be worth mentioning. The sequence using a shift function has to be very deliberate. You have to hold the pinky longer than the threshold value (I’ll come back to that), then hold the command key, then release the command key, then release the pinky switch. So, wheel brakes for example …. Pinky Hold -> Trigger hold -> Trigger release -> Pinky Release.
Pinky Hold threshold: The Pinky Switch is multi-function. On Short Press (tap shorter than the threshold value) it acts to change the FOV/Zoom of various sensors based on the mode you’re in … AG FCR: Norm/EXP/DBS1/DBS2; AA FCR: Norm/EXP; Maverick: Norm/EXP; TGP: Wide/Naro, etc. On long press (longer than the threshold value) it acts as a shift key. IIRC, the default threshold value is .250 seconds. The main point being, make sure you’re holding the pinky long enough to enter the shift state before pressing the next command key.
As far as that one command (if it is just the one command). Check the key file itself. It should be located in the folder: x:\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1\User\Config_<filename></filename>_.key . You can open it with Notepad or any plain text editor. Look for the highlighted lines below and make sure they’re the same in your keyfile:
Near the top of the unshifted section:
SimTriggerFirstDetent 0 -1 -2 0 0x0 -1
