Ff you could have one thing in the next update it would be…

It takes about 20 minutes to turn a Windows PC into a linux PC - just download and install Ubuntu 18.04 linux
Yep, that’s true… that’s only part of the equation though.
Installing WINE and BMS takes all of 10 minutes, but my setup is a bit more involved and there are a few components that don’t work fully on Linux (yet, I’m using Linux Mint 19 ATM).
What WORKS fine on Linux:
-
YAME64 works great for display extraction
-
HOTAS warthog works OOTB (2 separate dx devices, no TARGET required)
-
T500RS wheel / pedals for “poor man’s” rudder input, LogiTech G25 shifter for extra buttons on a Leo Bodnar adapter, Thrustmaster MFDs on a 2nd monitor
-
I can use the android tablet as an ICP / DED (RWR and DED textures not quite working yet on the tablet but I hope to be able to solve that one with Komurcu’s help hopefully), using a little python script I wrote to send the keypresses to the BMS window
-
Headtracking works great using OpenTrack, a ps/eye cam and my delanclip
-
Weapon Delivery Planner, Mission commander, weather commander, TacView and Tyrant’s VMTs work nicely in WINE (some perfectly, others so-so)
Items still needing alternatives on Linux:
- Voice Attack (I’ve looked at Simon speech recognition which should do the job on Linux, but haven’t gotten around building the dictionary yet)
- JetSeat / Simshaker: that one is beyond me as I’ve never done low-level USB programming. The GUI works but of course it doesn’t see the seat’s USB device.
All the best,
Uwe

Imagine…
You wake up in the middle of the night because you forgot to set your phone to silent. Since you’re awake anyway, you check who or what woke you at such an ungodly hour, and when you do, you see this.In your slumber, the only words that really register are “forum”, “announcement” and “new”, in that order, and you recall that you have mail notifications enabled for any updates to the Announcement-board on BMS.
Now,
A) You put your phone down, and fall asleep immediately. In the morning, you vaguely remember you received a mail.
B) You stop breathing for a second, your heart skips a beat, then starts pounding. You’re fully awake now, and re-read the mail, word for word. Disappointed, you put down your phone, and try to get back to sleep for over an hour.
C) You jump out of bed and rush to the computer, waking up half the house in the process. Not only are you disappointed when you realise your mistake, everyone is angry at you in the morning. -

Variant C is for the most of us, I suppose. Since, I’m on vacation, I have too much free time and check forums way too frequently.

It takes about 20 minutes to turn a Windows PC into a linux PC - just download and install Ubuntu 18.04 linux (the download is free). Then follow my linux install instructions on Arty’s hot list to install BMS on linux. Note that you only have to go through the BMS linux install procedure once - just keep a backup copy of your BMS .wine directory. if your PC gets corrupted somehow you can re-install linux, then re-install BMS simply by copying that .wine directory into your fresh Ubuntu 18.04 install. From what I hear, BMS runs faster on linux than it does on Windows.
How about Yame64 Cougar HOTAS MFD AND RUDDER on Linux. I have a win 7 around only to use BMS.

Perhaps 4.34 is close, but I am not holding my breath. Go on flying for now and relax. If it releases, I will be ecstatic! But for now, don’t ruin your keyboard F5 button for something that may or may not be released today, tomorrow, next week, next month or 3-4 weeks from now.

This stuff already works quite well on Linux, what’s your exact problem you’re having?
Can’t comment on the rudders but I see no reason why they shouldn’t work. I’m using my T500RS racing wheel pedals as a “poor man’s rudder” at the moment and it gets picked up fine by BMS, even the “virtual rudder” axis when using the pedals in their native split axis mode.

Yay, just flew my last mission with Falcon this year at sunrise in KTO at it was awesome! Thank you so much Falcon team for endless enjoyment!

I would love a bit more “interaction” with the Hornet cockpit. I don’t expect, or for that matter want, Hornet avionics. I just wouldn’t know what to do without TMS Up . I’m even ok the Rhino isn’t fully modeled.
However, would it be possible to have working backup comms, a fully modeled fuel panel, ECM Bit, true dual throttles ,etc. on the Bug? -
A CPD included in BMS

A CPD included in BMS
What’s that?
Edit: That was stupid, quickest search I got what it was . Central Pedestal Display. On the other hand it was on Elbit’s website and im probably on a list somewhere, Happy new year’s!

There are actually 5 different CPD versions worldwide for the Viper…
