Cannot set TWCS paddles as rudder

For some reason BMS is not letting me select the Z-rotation axis (aka the paddles) on my TWCS throttle as the rudder axis. I can set it to literally any other axis and it will work, just not rudder. That axis works fine in DCS, is being recognized by windows and by the BMS alternate launcher, and the rest of the throttle works fine in BMS, but getting paddles –> rudder axis = no way. Any ideas? I’ve tried changing USB ports, using vs not using vjoy/joystick gremlin/TARGET/everything else i can think of to no avail. any help appreciated!

hey hows it going? I also started out with a twcs based setup before I moved to a logitech x56, and I just wanted you to know that also happened to me. For whatever reason it’s not recognized. When I was finally able to try it in another sim, well, to be short and sweet you don’t want your rudder control on the same instrument as your throttle. Also, avoid the tendency to assign all your buttons to functions you think you want on the HOTAS, a good rule of thumb, if it;s not on the HOTAS in the real aircraft there is a good reason.

yeah, i use the twcs throttle + a CH fighterstick in DCS. My “rudder pedals” are my fanatec racing pedals, which I can assign in DCS to act as rudder pedals without issue, but am having trouble getting a “merged axis” to work from vjoy in BMS, so thats why I was trying to use the TWCS paddles. But yeah I try and match HOTAS mappings 1:1 as much as possible.

Joystick gremlin will allow you to merge axes to a single vjoy axis

Tried that too, seems BMS really really wants me to buy dedicated pedals lol. It wont accept the merged axis as rudder. I can set it to basically anything else though so it just doesnt make sense.

are you plugged directly into the motherboard or into a hub/monitor/keyboard ports?

My TWCS is plugged into one of the USB plugs on my monitor.

BMS-Manual (in your \Falcon BMS 4.33 U1\Docs\Falcon BMS Manuals folder), pages 236 and 247:
g_bUseVirtualRudder This option is only useful for people who use racing wheel
pedals and are NOT able to combine them into one axis via the
wheel’s drivers. By activating this option AND assigning the
pedals to Brake and Right Toebrakes axis in the UI, the sim will
emulate a rudder axis by combining the inputs of these two
devices. Available options: 0/1 - Default is disabled.g_bUseDeprRetAsBrake Enables use of a unipolar avionics axis mapping to the analog
braking function. Specifically, if you have a set of driving sim
pedals that you want to use with Falcon BMS this can give you a
way to use them to simulate the F-16 rudder bar and brakes.
g_bUseDeprRetAsBrake only works with g_bUseVirtualRudder
(lets you use the left and right toe brake axis mappings to
simulate rudder input) set to 1 (true). What you can then do is
map your driving clutch and accelerator pedals in the setup UI
to the right and left (respectively; try it before you say “that’s
backwards…”) and the driving brake pedal to the DEPR RET axis,
with the net result of analog rudder input by using both pedals
and single channel analog brakes in the jet by pressing on the
driving brake control.Works like a treat, my Logitech G25 clutch and accelerator are effectively my left and right rudder pedals. My brake pedal does that in the sim too, both as wheelbrakes on its own and in combination with a rudder pedal to offer differential braking.
