TGP and Laser for TE #11
-
I keep dropping the paveways short of the crane although the TGP cursor and FCR is locked on the crane. The L is flashing as well. Why doesn’t the weapon guide itself to the target? When I am level at 13, 000, I get the same result. I hold the pickle on the CCRP dropline through both fall lines until the paveway releases and it always falls short of the target. I tried to angle up 10 degrees after the first fall line to see if there was a dive toss effect, still no good.
UPDATE: I was able to take out both cranes when level @ 10,000. I was unaware that to be successful you have to fly at a precise altitude, weird!

you don’t have to fly a precise altitude
What’s the laser time?
You seem to be in Area, can’t your point track? -

watch out for the release speed…390+ IAS

I solved the problem. I wasn’t maintaining the TGP laser on the target after the weapon was released. I thought it would remain locked as the FCR indicated it was locked. Higher altitudes are easier to keep the laser on the target with the TGP. I’m just going through initial training using the TGP. Thanks for the heads up on the airspeed.

remember flyboy SOP after pickle when lasing is 5g off the target to the 090 or 270 from your vector, do not exceed a 90 degree roll in either direction because you’ll obstruct the laser with the jet. You can DTOS by accident as well, so it could be that you were in that first phase of the JIZ when you had problems, or as you said were too low. You’re going TMS up to lock and stabilize right? pretty sure you said that.

Make sure the laser is set to CMBT and not TRNG in the DED

Glad you solved your problem, even though not everyone noticed.
The downside of laser is that you have to maintain TGP lock and lase until hit. The upside is, you can hit moving targets, as your pod will track the mover while your laser is on.

Yes, TMS up to lock and stabilize. It seems, the more altitude above angels 10 the better.

lol, didn’t you complained about that before yourself?
post 2 gives the right hint though. So someone noticed …And glad you got it working

His picture showed CMBT,

post 2 gives the right hint though, so someone noticed….Heh… Little bit confusing to me. Though we’re saying the same I think. By not everyone, I mean there are still people giving solutions (that are not appropriate to that case, as you are pointing) - while the real problem is already solved.
I think you are referring to the thread where I said I was foreseeing I would answer in vain. Here, it was more about “people have their answers more than you have your questions”
(EDIT: you are currently living case n°1, maybe that’s what you actually meant?)

remember too there is a margin of error and yes the less distance between you and the target the less time the fins can correct the munition in flight. If you’re coming in low and fast, it might make more tactical sense to use a different munition or to DTOS it in the pop. You can fling a GBU a good distance and building up that angular velocity is actually going to produce a more accurate solution because the munition is going to have more kinetic energy than a simple level release or a nose down attitude release from a lower altitude.
In a general sense, from what I’ve learned and been learned, you don’t want to be down in the mud as such, you’re a sitting duck for manpads below 12k and as you’ve experienced you can experience problems with release and accuracy. Unless you’re sitting in a titanium bathtub with BRRRRRRT reynolds under your thumb, just use your sensors and rain death from above.
fly safe.

I have always wondered if changing zoom factor could make bombs miss sooner?
Most of my misses occur when I change zoom on locked targets.
Hope its just pure coincidence, but can’t help feeling it did.Cheers Obi1

I have lost lock on zoomed target by zooming out too far after I had locked it up in zoom in position. I think that is reality based feature. TGP may have harder time focusing on small small picture.
