Install troubles
-
I downloaded Falcon 4.0 from Steam and while trying to install BMS 4.33 I am unable to locate the Falcon 4.0 folder on the Falcon BMS Setup screen. I have a desktop icon and the properties says the folder location is in my users folder and it shows in that folder when I open it, however it will not show when I open the same folder in the setup screen. So, I’m at an impasse with the install. Any suggestions to help me with this would be deeply appreciated. Thank you!

In my past experience you physically need to make a folder that says what the information box says it’s looking for …, as I re read your post falcon 4 will be hiding in the MicroPose folder where ever you told it to go.

Thank you, it is residing in my users folder, but when I get to the FALCON BMS SETUP screen, the folders listed, including my users folder, do not list Falcon 4.0. When I access my users folder outside of the installation process Falcon 4.0 is there. I will try to make another folder and drop Falcon 4.0 into it and see how that goes.

OS {C} > MicroPose > Falcon 4.0

Ok, so I got it to load, but when I start the game there is no sound. If started directly from Falcon 4.0 I get sound. Didn’t realize this was going to be so troublesome!

Gonna clear the air on a few concepts so we can all get on the same page.
1. Falcon 4 is not related to BMS, and is basically used as a license check. This means that BMS and Falcon 4.0 install to separate locations in Windows, operate separately, and share no configs, folders, or user files. They are completely separate programs as far as Windows is concerned.
(*this is different that other games we may be familiar with “modding” where mod files change or reside in the base game folders/file structure. think of BMS as a standalone game alongside others on your computer)
2. BMS is looking for the installation location of Falcon 4.0, not the location of your desktop shortcut, or other folders that may be utilized by Falcon 4.0 such as configs in a Documents folder or AppData folder(s). Most every program you install on your computer will default to the C:\ or to the C:\Programs or C:\Programs (x86) folders. Look for a folder named Microprose in one of those locations. If you purchased this game through GOG.com, it may reside in a folder called GOG Games. If you purchased this game through Steam, it’s going to be in your Steam Library under (your Program Folder )\Steam\steamapps\common
As far as your sound device goes, head to Setup and see about setting your default audio settings, be sure Windows Volume Mixer has not muted BMS, etc. There are several steps to troubleshooting a sound issue, but in the end, if it will not resolve, uninstall/reinstall BMS and see if that does it. There have been cases of a simple reinstall fixing “x” error, and sometimes it’s faster than walking a new person through complex checks or other steps if the solution is not readily known. Best wishes and good luck!

when you are in BMS go to options, sound , sometimes it is just as easy to push the slider bar to the right till you get the desired effect you want, enjoy.

Thank you for your response. The program is now running, but still no sound. When I have Falcon BMS open, my App Volume and Device Preferences show the Master Volume at 96, and under APP it shows System sounds, Steam Client Bootstrapper and Falcon BMS all at 100. I guess I’ll have to delete and reinstall BMS again.

I uninstalled BMS by way of the regular install process and downloaded the appropriate 5 installation files again. When I go to install I get the message “Torrent ‘Falcon_BMS_4.33_U1_Setup.zip’ is already in the transfer list. Trackers have been merged.” It appears that I am now not able to install the BMS updates. Is there a way to work around this? Thank you for any help in getting me up and running!

Please read and follow Installation Instructions for BMS patches:
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?28573-Falcon-BMS-4-33-U2-Incremental-InstallerYou are dealing with the torrent file, not the actual installer file. Use a Torrent Client to download the files using that torrent of BMS U1. How did you not do this before if you had it installed already?

I appreciate your continuing help. I am not fluent in computer operation, other than normal pedestrian use. Prior to installing the BMS files I did download qBittorrent, as instructed. Where I am stuck is after having to uninstall BMS, I downloaded the files again and am getting the previously mentioned message when trying to reinstall BMS. I know I’m doing something wrong, I just need guidance to fix what I’m doing and get this program operating. Sorry for my ignorance with all this, but it is not my background.

You will probably need this file: Clean_Public_BMS_4.33 U1-3

After some searching I have the Falcon BMS running, but there is no sound. I have insured that all the sound functions are set, so is there is something else within the program that I should check? My DCS World program is running normally, so I don’t believe it has anything to do with my computer.
