Poll: Use Mavs or Not use Mavs?
-
In the 2019 era, do you use Mavericks or not use Mavericks?
I see a few threads about the seeker-head slew bug, within the past couple years, so was wondering if that is simply a facet of BMS 4.xx that people decide not to use because of it. I’m still learning Mavs in the training mission and wondering if I should bother (i.e. if everyone isn’t using Mavs then I’ll stop trying to learn it) -
Yup. I’ll use them, but I’ll use them the way they are intended to be used and not like I read of most here trying to use them. I do get the impression that BMS has much improved the realisimo of them…I think people are still getting un-spoiled from the way they worked previously.
…and if I had laser Mavs I’d probably use them exclusively.

Hi,
Let me tell you this:
I wrote the code of Mavericks for 4.33. We tested it to death and it’s very close to real - That said, yes there will be improvements and fixes on top of that to come. For me, the seeker bug is a minor thing. I won’t even consider it if I were you. It was a pretty long time (Maybe 2 years) since I flew campaign in KTO where I used Mavericks, and I don’t remember the seeker bug being THAT terrible. It wasn’t even that noticeable most of times IIRC.
And just to make sure - I assume the seeker bug is referred to as the effect of Maverick pointing position tend to “jump around” sometimes. I remember that happening only when TGP was the SPI and was used to slew to the area of the target and then SOI was moved to WPN for final lock. And even then, as I said, it wasn’t that terrible, IMHO.

two words: VIS mode

VIS and PRE with handoff here, haven’t noticed anything show stopping.

Let’s be realistic , the 4.33 Maverick code is as bugged as the MP code

use the 65B’s in VIS only, the rest don’t really suffer from slew bugs often. Occasionally one pops up but a quick dms-down (twice) would fix that for you. Just make sure you follow the training manual procedures accurately, most of what people find awkward in the maverick is feature, not bug.
Which is part of the fun. What’s the point of Mavericks? Standoff AI and TASMO, and becoming total master of TMS and DMS;)

Of course mavs and the boresight procedure are my favorites. Try all the training missions

Yes it is known that Mavericks in 4.33 are so bugged that you can hardly hit with them

Ohhh now I see the bug…
Your explosion smoke isn’t black enough…
//Arty runs and hides… :rofl:

Closing this one as it’s going nowhere and Mavericks in 4.33 have already been discussed to death. Use the Search box in the top right corner of the screen if you want to exercise your morbid curiosity.
Mavericks work just fine if you take the time to read the -34 manual and practise with them. If you’re missing with Mavericks go back to the -34 manual and work out what you are not doing, or doing differently; pay particular attention to the bold text. Videoing your attack runs is really helpful too of course, as a video will give you an unbiased, objective way of seeing exactly what you did, second by second. You may have thought you did everything perfectly, but the video will show you whether that was indeed the case.
