Falcon BMS requires "original copy" after purchase
-
Hi, just installed BMS over a falcon version purchased from GoG and when i start the game it asks for an original copy…Now wth…Did i do something wrong or they sold me a pirated copy?

Hi there,
I don’t think you’re supposed to install BMS “over” an original Falcon install. You should install it to a speparate folder, so both installations coexist side by side.
So if you have indeed overwritten your original install, that may be the problem.Greets.
… to use Falcon BMS on your system, a licensed copy of Falcon 4.0 must also be installed and present on that system. You do not need to have run Falcon 4.0 after installing it before you try installing or running Falcon BMS; simply completing Falcon 4.0 install successfully is sufficient. Note that presence of a CD [or ISO] copy of the original game will not help you: Falcon 4.0 must be installed correctly and completely on the system for the checks to succeed. For the avoidance of doubt, only copies of the original Falcon 4.0 game will work for use with Falcon BMS (any other later variants such as Allied Force are not compatible)…

The folder is separate. I made another folder in the Falcon install folder and installed it there.

Have you checked this topic? It’s a complete guide how to install Falcon BMS (up to U3, but the procedure applies to all updates).
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?31312-Starting-with-Falcon-4-BMS-4-33-Update-3
Note: in case you need to uninstall Falcon BMS, run its installer again and select “Remove products”.

Keep the original install untouched and the run the BMS installer. This installer will make it’s own folder were you will see only BMS related files. The BMS installer will look for the original Falcon version and when it has been identified it should run without any problem. Make sure when you are done that you keep the “Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 Setup” folder, you will need it to make the updates (U2, U3, U4 and U5) work.
Hope this will help

Hi there,
Ok, I am still in doubt of your folder structure. In your first post you said, you installed BMS “over” the original Falcon 4.0 install. Now you said, you created a separate BMS subfolder within the orginal(?) installation folder.
if that means here is a common Folder “x:\…\MyFalconInstalls” with separate “.Falcon4.0” and “.FalconBMS” subfolders, this would seem ok to me. But if you installed BMS within the original installation folder (i.e. “x:\MyFalconInstalls\Falcon 4.0\FalconBMS”) you again might have defeated the BMS installation check by modifying the original Falcon 4.0 install - depending on how this check is implemented.By following the mentioned guide you should be able to avoid such pitfalls.
Other than that, it would be worth checking the purchased and installed Falcon version. If it is the original Falcon 4.0, it should be possible to get you up and running.
Greets!

According to the screenshot he has not installed it in the Falcon folder. I’ve always let Falcon/BMS install directly onto the drive, without all the extra folder mumbo jumbo. My try that. May try running Falcon4 just once, and check again… grasps at straws…

I don’t see anything wrong on the screen provided. Check the guide jokhu linked to see if there is anything specific with the GoG version.
Most likely to fix, uninstall bms (or delete dir, make sure to back up any logbook and saves if you want to keep them) then run the registry tool:
Then reinstall. You are not the first person to see this error, usually it means that something is wrong with paths/ (folder name switched, second install etc., leftovers after legacy install long time ago ) This registry cleaner will make sure that when you reinstall BMS, it will install cleanly. I don’t think you need to reinstall F4.0 just make sure you installed it correctly and the paths were never moved or renamed, however you can always go for it to rule out any issue there (of course before you reinstall BMS). good luck!

Is Falcon 4.0 installed ? It seems not !
I believe the “GOG” purchase includes a earlier Falcon Version and Falcon 4.0 installer is in a “extras” folder.

Think Shadow is right, the COG version is Falcon Gold Collection and there’s an “extras section” that has the original Falcon 4.0 in it.
That’s the one that needs installed. -
Look at this thread I wrote describing how to install GOG Falcon 4 and get BMS working.
