Fun with Jsows

I didn’t know JSOWS had a viewer or seeker like Mavericks so I’ve spent alittle time last night launching them as such at a range where the weapon viewer had a relative picture of the target area about 15 to 20 miles out adjusting the mfd weapon cross hairs to desired weapon impact point, but you probably knew that already.

They do? I just checked F-16Blk50 with JSOW-A. WPN page is OFF.

that’s what I flew last night and, I just climbed out of the F-15 with 4 JSOW-As, and it worked as I said, I don’t mess with the data cartridge , I fly into target waypoint pick out a radar return scroll to it, go to weapon page uncage and bam I got a image, I’m not that good of a modder to make it work this way but it is way cool that it does

Well a couple of things with that video. He referenced it as a missile several times before he hit upon it’s real designation as a glide bomb or CBU. Nothing powered about that weapon at all. The other part which is more important to clarify is that, at least according to the tac reference, that the bomblets are combined effects munitions. So this should be more akin to what a CBU-87 can do against targets. If you take JSOWs up against T-72s you will be sorely disappointed in the outcome. IIRC it can do okay against older MBTs. T-55 and perhaps T-62. Either way there is definitely no guarantee it will take them out. They are still MBTs and would be better served with a CBU-97, Rockeye, or Maverick.
Anything short of a MBT the JSOW is quite effective at and it has a decent footprint. I liken it to a BMS mini nuke.

Regardless TGP or FCR, it just is used as a cuing mechanism. The weapon just flies to the last location designated by the sensor. However if the targets moved in the meantime, your weapon would miss anyhow. Not as effective against moving targets as Mavericks.

Your Video reference is from 4.32, which was limited on avionics code, so JSOWs were “Maverick like” weapons.
Since 4.33 JSOWs are working as they should, GPS guided weapons. If you can launch them with WPN page as Maverick then you may have 4.32 installed by mistake and you are ~8 years late

not by mistake but by design my crap box can’t run 4.33 or higher , I’m happy where I’m at till I get a new game box.
