OpenTrack, does BMS work with it?
-
No, its not the best around - EDTracker is.
Agreed. I’ve built two EDtrackers and they are just awesome for the price. I also prefer the stability they offer when flying.

OT.
Petros, do you still use Windows 98?;)
@Mower
I don’t own TIR, but OpenTrack with PS3 Eye camera has 640*480 @ 75FPS. I think it is enoughWindows 98 - Super Turbo!

- another 1…EdTracker for certain!

I guess I should be more specific…field of view, responce time and smoothness are important.
So heres the issue with all of the non TIR options mentioned here: TIR beats them all in the categories I noted above.
EDTracker has a 360 degree FOV, is very smooth, and has a response time that to me seems equivalent to when I was using TIR4, while being more stable and precise.
So I guess I’ll have to agree to disagree on that one.

I have a TrackIR 4. The problem is the Trackclip Pros are ludicrously fragile with 1mm of thin plastic in the joints holding the prongs of the clip to the body. I have broken two Trackclip Pros. They aren’t easily fixable either to retain adjustability. So I don’t recommend a TrackIR.
I’ve found the Modified PS3Eye + Track Clip + Trackhat OpenTrack is a far more robust solution and works as good as TrackIR. TrackIR has a 120 fps rate vs 60 for the PS3eye but it doesn’t seem to make any difference in-sim. You can get them on Ebay cheap e.g. $49 (I’m not associated with this seller):
I tried modifying a PS3Eye but the film negative/floppy disk film trick didn’t work for me and I didn’t want to destroy the kid’s PS3Eye to pull it apart to remove the IR filter. So bought a modded one on Ebay like the above link.
[Edit: PS3Eye has frame rate of 60 hertz at 640x480 and 120 hertz at 320x240] as pointed out below.

Not with the PS3 eyecam they both track at 120hz

PS3 eyecam tracks at 120FPS(120hz) exactly like TIR

At 320x240 though I think?
I run 640x480 75hz

According to Wikipedia “up to 320×240@187 or 640×480@75 fps, can be selected by specific applications (Freetrack and Linuxtrack)”

Well okay, thanks so far, gents.
Here’s the thing: my current TIR4 that Ive had for 10 years died.
So I m seeking a replacement that’s as good or better and cheaper, and even cheaper is going to be tough, might have to ask the prone-to-violence-cop-wife for purchase authority and usually that’s a tough go.
Now, I did see this:
But it seems suspiciously cheap.

Hmm… is EdTracker cable solution? I thougt it requires keeping BT device on your head. While I don’t have tinfoil hat (yet :P), I would go for cables whenever possible.

Cheap?! $48?!
In Poland PS3 eye costs around $1-2 (tops!), IR diodes another $2-3
-
Cheap compared to these options I mean for a IR clip and ps3eye combo:

Whats ironic is these 2 companies say they are cheaper than TIR, but not by that much.

Mine is cable, there is also a wireless version.
Perhaps avoid using your mobile phone, too.
And I hope all your cables are shielded! Conductors like cables emit RF energy too you know.
Did you know the IR diodes you use emit RF as well?
Better get that tinfoil hat quick!

Back on EdTracker - is it 6DOF or 3DOF headtracker?
