Test low-poly toys in BMS4..

Another hi-poly test - Q-5N cockpitwing test.
The Q-5N is a very hi quality model(by Hayab?), the canopy and windshield frames look great, plus reasonable pit interior. so i eager to check if i sitting inside the pit.the pics show…
1. great immersion and view perspective, detailed canopy open/close.
2. HUD or reflection aiming plate set too low. nice aiming reticle texture.
3. totally unable to see mainwing! poor backward view by design.

It needs only for AI.
As I can remember are IL-76/78 + A-50 in your LOD pack which are better than current stone age 3D models.
Is there any info what is under construction by the Team? Which is worth to integrate and make a good skin for it? As AI controlled planes a good skin can give enough boost for even older 3D models.

Crazy !:crazy::D
Btw. the pit is more a MiG-19PM pit, which should be similar to an old Q-5A pit.
For the more modern Q-5N pit it was impossible to get reference pics.

another launch bridle test…
in this case, it uses few 4.34 features:- DOF98 launch bar as bridle, only work for AI ac. ( human OFM ac > CTD once hit lower launch bar keystroke)
- gear Z value to support taildragger ac.
- tailflat trim > later i decide to use DOF19 instead. DOF 0 causes odd tailflat movement in flight.
- new tailhook code > now it can catch wires.
it’s a pleasure to watch AI ac do bridle-launch one by one.

Thanks to Nuno Santos’ tip, i finally make HMS Invincible working.
I’ve to admit [Carrier obj PHD] file is the key to make it working…
I’ve to read this important article several times to catch the points.some thoughts to share…
1. runwaylistype 0 : this takeoff data MUST have TWO takeoffpt and TWO takerunwaypt to work. if use only one takeofftp/takerunwaypt, ac will jump into sea from mid deck!
for single runway Invincible carrier, i’ve to arrange all four points at 55 ft interval along x axis and 1-2 ft Y axis, to get max four ships aligned properly… the lineup occupies a big portion of deck.2. runwaylistype 0 - reverse : is a must have. it should have one runwaypt and one takeoffpt. i missed this one and unable to get landing ac aligning the runway.
3. runwaylistype 5 : pt have Z value for ski jump > the first pt should be placed at the rear end of deck. if not, ac will hit an invisible hitbox at rear end of deck, or land on an invisible deck tens ft above real deck.
4. Helilistype : only support TWO heli pt. i tried to add four pt, and edited veh file, but in vain. only two helo show on the deck; the other two, one is overlapping on deck one, the other sit on sea level, under the deck.
5. takeoff test - great. all ac can ski jump nicely. one takerunwaypt-one takeoffpt code support should help relaxing the heavy deck operation. the single-runway carrier has much slower launch tempo.
6. landing test - good but AV-8 fails to land on Invincible. i add virtual tailhook on AV8 in fm.dat and add three arresting wires on the deck… the ac landing /touch down speed is too high/ 162 kt, some catch wire but unable to stop, hit the ski ramp or fall off deck and explore others miss the wire and ski jump again!! If slower landing speed can be set, AV8 should be able to land - or better with NEW code for vertical landing.
of course, human pilot can safely land back to Invincible with vector thrusting.
7. since Invincible carrier don’t use JBD and meatball DOF/switch, i set the model to use script 19/radar DOF 14… so two radars turning, no more static parts.
8. smoke trail > it only support ONE smoke trail position in Veh file. i add TWO, only one show up.

hi to all i ve just discovered my old ff6 installation. someone knows if 3d models are compatible with bms 4.34 and if yes can someone point me to a guide to add or replace 3d models? thanks!
-
here’re test shots…
1. line up.
2. ripple launch two ac… the launch spacing is crazily short due to TWO takeoff pt.
3. landing failure rate 100%. this one catch the wire, but slide to right or left and fall off the deck.
BTW, even on this low-poly carrier, the ac canopy glass and helicopter rotor blades(new hi-poly helo and old low-poly one) become invisible when its blackground is ship deck or bridge structure. i think it’s a gfx rendering issue, only with transparent/textured-transparent nodes.

All right, the Invincible carrier landing failure is solved!
the key is increasing the space between runwaypt and takeoffpt/takerunwaypt. it gives ac more time to slow down before switching to next action after reaching takerunwayPT.
now AI ac have high successful landing rate and able to ski jump takeoff. the only old bug is ac turning when ship turning…if ac heading is not aligned with takeoff runway, it won’t follow the PT setting.

Well, it’s realistic, all things considered.
Just my own and humble opinion, of course. Thanks for the useful news, this will help in improving my way of flying for sure.
With best regards.

That’s great, man!
I see you’ve found those sweet spots for tandem lineup and takeoff.
I’ll try to use those separations and see if I can use the same in R11 and L61, makes takeoff much more realistic.
Great work, ccc

I see you’ve found those sweet spots for tandem lineup and takeoff.
well the order of tandem lineup is …
1st takeoff pt - 2nd takeoff pt -1st takerunwaypt - 2nd takerunwyapt.each pt space is 55 ft for AV8 size. 1st pt and 2nd pt got a Y offset around 1-2ft.
for small VSTOL carrier, the four pt occupy half more runway space!
-
for smaller carrier, it’s harder to get good launch/recovery with limited deck space.
-
I checked they are in the package.
Will the be included in the next update of 4.34? They need only skin….

Small, but good looking

FYI the carrier Garibaldi has a 6.5 degree ski ramp…the shallow ramp cannot provide sufficient “jump” power. i have to pull stick all the way back till AV8 reach 130+kt, or ac will hit the water once off the front end of deck.
Later i checked most Garibali vids on youtube, just found all AV8 set nozzle 20-30 deg downward thru takeoff run, to provide additional lift.

bigger ship, better result. this one has 100% ac recovery.
