Transfer BMS to different drive…SSD
-
Ok guys
So it’s three steps correct Khronik. Looking at your last updated post. -
Three steps…
1- Hit Window key on keyboard.
2- Type “regedit” and hit enter.
3- Edit “Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Benchmark Sims\Falcon BMS 4.34” - baseDir value to point to the migrated directory.fancy pants
-
Also what about the original falcon 4.0 game should that be moved over to the new drive as well. just curious. My goal here is to have only Falcon 4.0 and BMS on the same SSD by itself…

(Edited for Dee-Jay)

3- Copy Falcon BMS install to new path.…also takes 3 seconds vs 5-10 minutes for the re-install

You’re asking if it should be moved, yet your goal is to have them on the same drive, so there really is no question for anyone to answer, you’ve answered it yourself!!
That was beyond Dee-Jays abilities!!!

OK OK I just wanted to know. So theres only one folder that I see on my C drive for Falcon 4.0 is there any other hidden somewhere…? Also what about the regedit change please
-
If I was you I’d copy the game you have set up, to what you think is perfect to a flash drive so if you goof something up and trust me it will happen you have it backed up and reload from the flash drive.

Well Guys
Heres the results.I copied BMS and Falcon to my F drive on the SSD, Everything is great except the display in the F drive game screen is huge and not centered now I still have my original BMS & Falcon on my C drive and its runs perfect still, so the computer sees both installs as separate games but just my main in cockpit screen is not using my native screen resolution of 3840X2160 so that weird…

Ok, test it out a bit. Your original BMS install which was is on our C drive, rename it, to XFalcon BMS 4.34, that will only disable it for now until you rename it back.
Then launch your new install on your F (SSD) drive and see how it looks, make adjustments if need be, or if you can to get it running in your correct reso.
Report back!!

OK Renamed it but it did nothing, still the same result from the F drive game…its weird cause all of the files are the exact same on both drives but its seems like when I boot up the game on the F drive, its not looking at the settings for the game. The C drive all of the screen are alot smaller and off center as they should by due to the config of the 3 monitors…
here’s what the F Drive in game loading screens look like step by step
-
Didn’t know you were utilizing multiple monitors. I would suppose you would have to setup it up in Configuration like you had it set on your C drive?
You might want to try deleting your dx9display.dsp file in your User/Config folder and see if that resolves it!?!?

Yeah sorry I am using 2-7 inch lilliput monitors for my mfd’s and my main monitor. I’ll do this tomorrow cloud and report back to ya buddy just curious what does dx9display.dsp do
-
Manages displays!?!?!

OK well I tried to delete the file you told but it still stayed the same I also went to compatibility and checked the “disable Full Screen Optimizations” nothing its still the same. Im scratching my head I think I may have to uninstall it and then just reinstall it on that drive. Unless you have some other ideas to try….
-
I could have uninstalled and reinstalled in the time it took to read this thread.
And even less doing it using combinations of the other methods.
Baby steps first. Its safer.
PS: Save your log book and the last save of any camp your far into.

Yeah but the good thing about this is experimentation to see what works and what doesn’t, it may help others in the future…just saying! So I backed up the Data, User and Bin folders I think that pretty much covers it. I may just uninstall the game on my C drive and the reinstall it on F. It looks to be the easiest way right now. I just dont wat to lose my all my Jonhas mods and my settings…

when it comes to software, if you can, anytime you make a hardware change you should just do it fresh. You’re right of course, about experience sharing and wisdom, but just coming from a “dont be paranoid you can fix anything you lose in five minutes plus no headache” angle , I have heard people worry about their hard drives, changing OS SSD or HDD, flipping out components, drivers etc etc etc.
you give windows the best opportunity of success when you do things fresh. in saying that, most times transfering a cfg file or a profile is very easy, as opposed to dealing with regedits, or some of the harry business that can pop up when swapping components hardware and drives.
