Warthog Throttle advice for precision
-
I currently have my warthog throttle set up so that I have to lift it get out of idle and to engage the after burner. Do you guys do it that way too? Any advice for making it as easy as possible to be precise with the warthog throttle?

There’s a way to file down the detent so that you don’t have to ‘lift’, but it becomes a ‘bump stop’ that you have to push over. I did this on the MIL -> AB detent and like it.
-
Yeah I lift but I took the springs out so it’s not so hard. Ideally I would replace them with much lighter springs.
-
I don’t mind lifting, my concern is that there is so little room to move the throttle between the idle detent and the afterburner detent, that maybe its too hard to be accurate? Maybe not? What do you guys think?
I’m trying to figure out air to air refueling, and how to be precise with my throttle.

How you did it? Can you explain, please? Thx

warthog throttle is very precise even if theres little room between idle and AB. u can check it by looking at the FTIT gauge.with the cougar i didnt have such a good precision

The throttle values have incredible resolution like 10s of thousands of values. You won’t ever get perfect thrust during AAR anyway. You always bounce around in the “box” with constant adjustments.

Thanks b_bong12 and Frederf. So now I can’t blame the throttle for making me suck in precision flight, but I can still blame my warthog stick until I get the force mod!
Seriously, I just wanted to know if there was anything you veterans did to make the throttle more precise, so thank you for those answers.
Finally, cooromalteseit had a good question. Is there a video or instructions on how to file down the detent for the afterburner? Can you do it for idle as well? Real F-16 throttles have a idle detent trigger on the throttle that you have to squeeze to get out of idle, right?

I can recommend the detents from debolestis on Shapeways. Been using several of them with no issues for almost a year.
Good thing is you always have the original to swap back in if you want to.warthog-throttle-part-afterburner-detent
He also has modeled different detents for specific aircraft also.
Have no idea about the idle detent, I’d never want to accidentally slide through that lift action and kill the engine.

I thought there was a thread or a post, but I can’t find it.

Not that I know of. I’d be happy to get rid of the idle detent altogether, but as noted above, not if shuts the engine down.

Agave Blue,
Good point on the idle detent. Definitely want to keep that!TxMtb, I just ordered that detent! Very cool! Thank you.
