Strange transparency and flickering in the UI
-
I’ve just had to reinstall my system long story, but in summary Falcon would crash loading the 3D environment (I found the AMD Raptr issue after the fact…grrr).
So, after reinstalling, I go to the UI and click on any of the areas at the top: “setup”, “tactical refernce”, etc. The overlay is semi-transparent and flickers…my eyes!!! Pushing through, all is OK in 3D.
Windows 8.1 64bit
AMD Radeon HD 8800MAny help would be greatfully received.

Well, what a strange few hours that was.
So, as I said, I had a new OS install and I noticed a Display driver update via the Samsucks Software Updater. I ran that, and it made matters worse. Now I couldn’t launch Falcon at all, just a black screen for a few seconds, then dumped to desktop (but with Falcon running in a small black screen - resolution issues?). So, thinking the SW driver update was to blame, I downloaded the latees AMD driver (Catalyst Omega 14.12), making sure NOT to install “Game Evolved”. This made NO differnce at all.
In fact I COULD run Falcon, but had to jump through hoops to do so. I had to set the desktop screen resolution to something low; 1024x768 (my native res is 1920x1080), launch Falcon, set the in game resolution to 1920x1080, “FLY”, go back to desktop set res to 1920x1080, go back to flight. At the end of a mission, I had to reverse the above.
Obviously, there is some resolution switching issues going on so I started thinking out the box. I recalled launching Falcon (some time ago) with a second monitor attached (don’t recall the details). So I decided to mess with the Windows 8.1 “Project” settings. I WinKey-P and picked “Duplicate”, this brought up the Screen resolution control panel and the display panel showed the display split into two (1/2). I launched Falcon (at 1920x1080)…it runs! I go to set up, pick 1920x1080, go to fly, it flies!! So after a week of heartache and break (I thought I had lost Falcon) I am now good to go (touch wood).
Anyway, I’m just reporting in, incase any other viper drivers have similar issues and find these notes helpful.
Hopefully, these 3D issues will be fixed in 3-4 week
