No sound in COMM
-
Radio ON ?
Frequencies set properly ?
Volume on COM button ?
ICP active or are you using BACKUP UHF ?
Did you read the “FalconBMS.pdf” manual ?
…

How do you explain no sound in the setup>sound menu when i try to test the comm level of sound ?
It is not a matter of frequency selected, isn’t it?
-
folks with surround sound setups reported similar issues several times already, try searching for those.

As Moort said … should be sound card setting issues …

I’ll try to modify audio setup in the WINDOW’s audio manager this evening. Thanks

I’m curious if you succeed. There were some others, including myself, with this issue.
somehow it was fixed by adding the line to your cfg file:
set g_bUse3dSound 0
If not already, after using DTC to set tower frequency, you (hopefully ) hear yourself and ATC (&tanker)Regards,

… for those who wondered: this helped…

I am having this same problem. Starting yesterday I ceased receiving sound on comm 1, comm2 and IVC. Also no mic press clicks. Problem occurs on single-player and multiplayer.

Did you try all of the above remedies? if so, you should hear these sounds again. If not, feel free to contact me (or others of course )
I’d be happy to help.

Solved by saving DTC and doing a ramp-start. Seriously…those two steps were required. The DTC should have nothing to do with UHF and VHF mic clicks but it does (or did in my case). Thanks for the offer to help.

FanI am having the same problem as Codered. Could you explain how to add that line and where config file is located. Im a noobie to this so details would be greatly appreciated. BTW i loaded the freq into the DTC aswell without any change ingame
Thanks,

@Havoc117,
Sure mate, no problem.
This line can be added to your bms config (also called: bms config.dat) file. It doesn’t matter where you put it, but at the end of the file is probably best.
The file is located in your bms install folder under the map ‘User’ from the top of my head. I’ll check when I’m home.
Also, set the sliders in the sound setup menu a tick above the advised levels to be sure that there can’t be a problem.
If any questions, feel free to ask (or PM if you’d prefer)

I was wrong in my previous post. Sorry about that. That’s what happens when one is 2 tired
Ok, here’s the correct info:
filename = falcon bms.cfg
Location: \install folder on your harddrive\User\config\
You can edit this file with e.g. notepad.
Line to add:
set g_bUse3dSound 0
Hope this helps,

I was able to find it and follow your instructions. I am glad to report that they worked.
I had to go into the ingame settings>sound and for some reason had to also crank the COMM1&2 up to max. When I played with the volume levels the sound would crackle and didnt get a continuous sound until I raised it to max. Then after entering freq in the data cartridge and manually inputing them in while in a mission I was able to hear all the comms “loud and clear”
Thanks FanofBMS432 once again I appreciate your help, and no problems about the file location I was able to find that myself at the very least :P.
I also hope this helps anyone else having the same problem. Remember to raise your COMM level to max in the settings.

I had the problem of losing sound on COMM 1 and COMM 2, both in-game and at the SOUNDS screen in settings.
I reloaded my data cartridge (DTC) and did a ramp-start (just got to the set of loading the DTC into the flight computer) and start receiving COMM 1 and 2 sounds. The sounds also returned when testing at the set-up screen after that process.
One thing I noticed at the set-up screen when I had COMM1 or COMM2 test button selected is I would get the sounds when I dragged the volume select bar back and forth.
I’m sure the 3dsounds thing in the command line works for people, but there’s something else that’s actually causing the problem I suspect.

I turned on the subtitles and when I am practicing the daytime Final Approach landing, I contact the ATC and The subtitles appear as if the tower is talking but I do not hear myself or the tower. I followed your directions and added the line " set g_bUse3dSound 0 " into the file and now it all works fine.

… Glad to hear that m8. Happy huntin’

Folks,
I have all sounds except a very low COM1 and COM2 volumes. This first occurred when joining the Korean campaign, Rolling Tide, and flying my 3rd mission. It persists even after a restart, despite me having all of the volumes set to max, including COM1 and COM2, and the little volume knob centered on the Comms panel. I can see the printed blue messages from the tower, just as always, but I can’t hear them. When in MP mode, even the human flight lead over IVC isn’t discernable. Again, I hear all other cockpit noises fine…RWR, missile firing, fans, button clicks. Of note, the normal pinging from the datalink, when in CONT with wingie in AA mode, isn’t there either.
EDIT/ADD: Further testing reveals no LOCK voice when the radar locks in dogfight mode, but I do hear Betty tell me when I’m stalling, with the flashing WARN HUD indicator. I do hear faint calls about my own missile firings, and when a missile is inbound, e.g., APEX INBOUND. It’s lower than it normally was. When I key the MIC button, it is also more faint than before, but audible.
I have added the line “set g_bUse3dSound 0” to the Falcon BMS file, per the guidance below. Still the same problem.
I have made no changes to my baseline in months, before this happened. The only mod since was the above “set g_bUse…”
Any ideas what it could be?
Thanks,

I had something similar happen when I changed theaters. I found that some of the sound sliders in “Setup” had moved down for some reason. If you haven’t checked there yet take a look at the sound tab under setup.
