Basic, bare bone TE
-
I just want to set up a simple Air to Air mission with a non maneuverable, non aggressive target to practice with the radar. I’ve RTFM on making TE, but it is more involved for what I need. Any links for simple instructions. I Googled, but all I found were more involved than I need or want. Please don’t flame me. I’m not lazy, just short on time and patience for such a simple task.

you don’t have to do it
training mission #17 IR missiles is what you needit’s a C160 non manoeuvering target for you
but to be honest expect a little effort required if you want to master BMS

Just wondering: How do you create a non-maneuvering target? If you choose a neutral / allied side for the target package, wouldn’t you get a “dereliction of duty” when shooting them down?
I’ve created similar TEs (say with a Bear flight as a target) and they’ll start maneuvering as soon as I lock them up or get in range (last tested in 4.33, granted).
@mf: check this tutorial on YT for a basic TE builder intro:

Yes I had that problem when I created that training TE.
You can’t train against an unaware contact if he’s in an opposed team.
so in the TRN 21, it’s a blue oneBut that’s Aïkido.
Using a feature of BMS with no debrief or consequences for training mission, you can easily get blue on blue without the dereliction of duty -
Well, that Q-5 in the Guns TE seems pretty dim. He doesn’t seem to realize you’re coming until you fly in his face, even if you go STT on him. I’d say, with no radar and crappy RWR, a Q-5 with a rookie pilot is a good choice for unaware contact on an opposed team.
Also, in my experiments, bombers seem to be more or less sitting ducks. They’re not completely unaware and nonmanouvering, but pretty close, especially older ones.

Thanks for all the answers. They give me a place to start.

You could also just go to dogfight in the UI and setup some TU-95 bears for the other teams and torture them to your hearts content.
