Match Play Dogfight BVR Tactics and a much improved A I
-
The AI in dogfight mode have had a considerable improvement in tactics, THANKS! BMS development team. I have had to adapt my tactics quite a bit to survive in a 1v4 against ace level opponents. I had noticed in TE and campaign how the AI had become much more aggressive and were now using various formations and tactics not ever seen in previous versions. The selection dropdown for BVR Tactics in Match Play Dogfight mode was quite the surprise for me the 1st time I saw it and a greatly appreciated new option for an area of the sim that has not changed all that much over the long history of Falcon. I had seen this talked about in a few threads here recently and did see a nicely done video by JoNay showing all the opening tactics in a 1v2 situation against the AI. However I found the AI acted quite differently in a 1v4 situation for each of the different tactics than those used in 1v2.
It would be good to hear more from others if and how you have had to change tactics in dealing with the greatly improved fighting skills of the AI.
Here are a couple of videos I’ve recently posted of the “Pure Pursuit” BVR tactic showing my newly adopted tactics to counter the AI improvements.
1st video
1 F-16 Blk. 52 vs. 4 Mig 29s Match play AI level ace. A Tacview of the engagement from the 29s side of the fight. Loadouts were 6 120s and 6 R-77s. Took me quite a few attempts to get all four. It took a considerable amount of energy going head on in to the four AI, and I stayed in total aggressive mode to get shots off on all four AI aircraft. All 6 missiles were needed as that last AI defeated the 1st missile, only took damage on the 2nd missile, survived some 20mm, and finally the 3rd missile took him down.
2nd video
Another dogfight mode Match Play 1v4 blk.52 against 4 Mig 29S video, using the A I Pure Pursuit BVR tactic. Video captured in pit view with Picture in Picture ACMI, then the 2nd part of the video goes full screen ACMI for a review and a better perspective of how this played out. The title describes how I have had to adapt my tactics in response to the greatly improved A I tactics now implemented. No longer do I go full defensive after my initial volley of missiles, but tend to go what I call “offensive evasive”. I can never win a round now going full defensive. Staying extremely fast and trying to keep full beam on the inbound missiles, with liberal use of chaff is the only way I can deal with a 4 ship with R-77s.
Once again thanks to those in the BMS devolopment, it just keeps getting better!

Hi mate glad to hear you like it!, Your post also has another function, what kind of function?
It can be helpful to rookies like me and others to learn some maneuvers and tactics for BVR combat.Sent from my Redmi 7A using Tapatalk

Great to see that people notice a difference and are interested, thank you for that
Pure Pursuit is not really a tactics, this is just the basics…
Besides, you should try against equivalent opponent like F18 or F15 equiped with AIM120 , you wont avoid AIM120 like you do avoid R77…
I mean to me you dont respect the MAR, and this is not really good BVR tactic to fly like that…you are just risking high.
And if you go against Rafale IR + EM Mica Equiped , good luck

Around 2025, we should have Rafale with Meteor, MICA NG IR & EM…. that will be a challenge for the aging F-16
(BTW, seems that having any data on Meteor is even more difficult than having on FAS procedure, not to speak about MICA NG, so the proablility these weapons will be in BMS is quite low) -

I took your advice/challenge and chose a 4 ship of F-15Cs. After at least 30 rounds of Match Play Pure Pursuit the best I have been able to do is take down 3 of them. The F-15s tactics are very different than the 29S tactics and the Aim120s certainly take more effort to defeat. Not giving up on this yet though as I enjoy the challenge of going against overwhelming odds. Having a lot of fun trying to defeat all four of them

Keep in mind that pure pursuit is the simplest tactics (there is nearly no tactic its run and shoot basically…)
Try grinder

I tryed BVR 1vs3 grinder tactics

Once again I follow your suggestion
So here’s what I’ve got for this video.
Dogfight Mode Match Play, BVR Tactic Grinder Loadout all aircraft 6 AIM-120s Ace level A I. Defeated the first two AIM-120’s by changing aspect to go full beam to break radar lock before the missiles could go pitbull on me.
This allowed me to press back in without going defensive. Got missiles away on all four aircraft before I had to go full defensive. This surprisingly turned in to a knife fight with the last F-18 !!! and I took it to almost no fuel before the fight ended. Training against the AIM-120’s is a lot tougher than the R-77s for sure, but have been beating them more consistently now after some long training sessions. To be honest I’m having more difficulty with Pure Pursuit than with the Grinder BVR tacticACMI can be downloaded from here if you have Discord https://discord.gg/6A96hB
