Terrain Changes in the Future . . . ?

I’m not a modder / programmer / or in any way able to modify or improve BMS but this . . . Perhaps could be useful to those who do?

Google is opening up its Google Maps Platform to everyone so developers can incorporate Maps data into their games, the company announced on Monday. Its tools let developers use Maps data to build games

I think it will be better than that.

Not that much need for google maps data, for majority of the areas OpenStreetMap should be more than enough, and for those it won’t (N. Korea) google ain’t gona fare that much better. OSM data is already used by other sims so there are tools to work with their maps.
For hi-res terrain mesh data there should be other good sources available.
Anyways i’m really looking forward for this upgrade to happen. -

IHawk posted many times about small but clear sentences that a new terrain engine will come. Sooner or later. He speaks about not preparation. The work is in progress.
I fact he said something:“he can’t see the current terrain anymore”
I guess this meant in hist test version BMS 4.3x the new engine is running at least on some level that he is confident about the end result.

I get it, but I reckon whoever has the time to wonder at the terrain, is probably not really “flying” the F-16… :photo:

Let me disagree, current terrain has terrain elevation plain wrong (due limited mesh resolution), lack properly populated cities of proper scale. I think those aspects are as much important as detailed avionics or ATC procedures.

BMS guys never promised IFF, and yet they delivered the best IFF implementation in the sim world ever made.
They kinda promised new terrain for BMS - we can only imagine how great it will be. -
Yep, that’s why i’m really looking forward to it. It’ll take Falcon to the new level.

This assumes you build on Unity, so it’s a no go. Also to work on this API needs a billing account meaning a valid credit card, just to have access to the free stuff it has to offer just in case you go over the free limitations.

I am curious about why the capability of naval ships air defense is cancelled in the 4.34. Does it relate to the development of new terrain engine?
It’s very boring flying over Aegean Sea both for Turkish side or Greek side without any naval ships fire at me.

Let me put this way.
1. Without giving the real capabilities of ship AD they are just practice targets. As long they do not have the multiple target channel as in RL for ships what have them they are not a real threat.
2. Without anti ASM capability they are just sitting ducks.But if you provide these against AI they would be just as OP as a single S-300PS or PMU1 if it was in the game…

I remember naval ships AD in the 4.33 can engage multiple targets.
