Bms 4.35 windows 7: the program can't start because d3dcompiler_47.dll is missing
-
Hope this helps.
I am using W7 ultimate, dx11 is running and I have installed the dx update but nothing will start now, not even the original Falcon 4.0. I am trying to install onto a new clean W7 i7 computer and have reinstalled everything twice trying to get it to run. The update listed here says it requires Windows Server 2008 to install that update… why do we need Windows Server installed? Do I really need it for 4.35? Won’t that add overhead?
Any suggestions on what dll’s might be missing on a new computer install would be appreciated, I know on other versions we have had to replace or delete certain dll’s. I am also suspecting that it might be my video card which is an AMD 7000 and only has 4 gig memory. My current computer has a better AMD 7600 vid card and more ram memory which will eventually go into the new i7 but I am not taking that out of the i3 until I get 4.35 running on the new one since I am flying 4.34 every day when possible.

Windows 7 SP1 requires the “platform update” (KB2670838) to be installed, as stated on the BMS 4.35 installer page, use the x64 version here. Windows 7 SP1 64-bit is the minimum supported OS version.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36805
The missing dll file, D3Dcompiler47.dll is in update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4019990) here.
http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4019990
DirectX 11 is built into Windows 7 so you should have the correct files with the 2 above updates.

Those updates have already been installed.

Those updates have already been installed.
Then give a try to install these 3 (x64) with the exact order:
Where asked for a reboot, do it and then continue.
These will update your windows 7 to the latest Servicing Stack Update (SSU), that needed by a lot of programs/utils.
If you are lucky and solve the issue, report back.
Maybe to help some others. -

And WAHOO… I rebooted and just tried opening the orginal falcon4.0 and it worked!!! Unfortunately I have removed all falcon BMS programs so I will start installing again and get back to you. Fingers crossed.

Still having a problem starting it. During the install the third link you gave me seemed to show up as an install for x264vfw-H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec setup, never seen that before so was hopeful that was what was missing but I still got and error trying to launch.
“Falcon BMS has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program.”
Tried running in W7 compatibility mode and just in case, disabled display scaling on high DPI settings but same result.

This is the first half of a DXDIAG test I ran. Anyone see any problems in there???

Try setting the -nomovie parameter in the launcher. In my case:
“M:\FALCON_BMS\Falcon BMS 4.35\Launcher.exe” -nomovie

I would try that, and hope it helps.

I don’t see why. BMS4.35 uses less GPU than 4.34.
That’s right. I have a dated machine, too, and, to my surprise, 4.35 runs better than 4.34 did. Win7/64, no probs.

LSOn one of my test machines even, with a sound card I had to plug in speakers otherwise BMS crashed at start.
For our BMS Dedicated server running on Amazon EC2 cloud instance without GPU and sound we installed just a virtual sound device -
Thanks guys, I will add a sound device and see what happens.
That seems to work, thank you all. I haven’t got past the setup screen yet as I don’t have any controls setup or installed on that computer yet but it looks like it is working, the main GUI is good and so is the set up screen so looks like it is time to start programming the cougar.
I never would have guessed the problem was no sound device attached, I don’t recall seeing that anywhere, all I did was attach earphones to the front audio output and voila… happiness. Thanks to all that took the time to reply.

You are welcome.
Now enjoy…
